Kira Jorgensen Preece

January 3, 1986 — June 7, 2023

Some people walk this earth for only a short time, but in that time, they impact our lives forever. On June 7, 2023, Heather Kira Jorgensen Preece’s precious life was cut short. She was 37 years old and resided in Hyrum, Utah.

Kira was born on January 3, 1986 in Logan, Utah, to Clair Jorgensen and Bert Watson. Alongside her sister Kami Reese, Kira grew into an adventurous, compassionate, courageous woman with a quick smile and a beautiful heart. Kira was especially family-oriented, and spent countless hours outdoors with her daughter Mea-Cia Preece, her husband Dustin Preece, her father Clair Jorgensen, and the numerous relatives in her extended family.

Kira graduated Mountain Crest High School in 2004 and Beau La Reine College of Beauty Culture in 2006, gave birth to Mea-Cia on June 11, 2007, and married Dustin Preece on September 6, 2008 in a unique ceremony on top of Mount Logan, followed by a reception in Black Smith Fork Canyon at the Lodge. Throughout the years, Kira worked as a beautician in Layton before she moved back to Cache Valley and worked as a valued employee at EK Worldwide in Nibley for seven years. Most recently, Kira followed in her father’s and sister’s tradition of operating heavy equipment by driving trucks for Legrand Johnson Construction Co. She drove a double belly dump that made her one of the happiest people in the world and she made countless friends at work whom she never stopped talking about.

Anyone who knew Kira would tell you that she was truly one-of-a-kind. She could solve practically any problem, was detail oriented, and was always the first person to offer help to someone in need. She was incredibly tough, driving heavy machinery, soaring across the sand dunes on motorcycles, four-wheelers, jeeps, and Razors, and climbing up sheer rock cliffs with ease. Kira took pride in her home and yard, and was particularly proud of her vegetable garden. In addition to her outdoor pursuits, Kira was also a talented cake decorator and crafting expert. She made numerous people’s special occasions brighter with the beautiful, creative cakes she made in her at-home bakery.

Kira’s family life was full of adventure and creativity, and they loved to celebrate and enjoy the milestones in their lives. She, Dustin, and Mea-Cia loved to create imaginative Halloween costumes and decorate their home for the holiday. They also threw elaborate birthday parties for Mea-Cia, whom Kira treasured dearly. If they weren’t at home, they could be found driving and camping in the canyon, exploring in Moab’s slick rock or the sand dunes, or helping out their families and friends.

Although Kira may be gone, she will never be forgotten. Kira is survived by her daughter Mea-Cia Preece, her father Clair Jorgensen, her mother Bert Watson (Darrell), her sister Kami Reese (Cole and family), and her large, loving extended family.

A viewing will be held at Allen-Hall Mortuary on Thursday, June 15 from 6-8 p.m. On Friday, June 16 there will be a viewing from 10:30-11:30 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 12 noon at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 Center Street in Logan. Internment will be at the Logan Cemetery.
