Kirk Ingram Smith – October 13, 1961 – October 12, 2016

Kirk Ingram Smith, age 54 of Brigham City, Utah passed away at home on October 12, 2016. He was born October 13, 1961 in Logan, Utah, the youngest child of LaVor Lindhardt and Viva Swainston Smith.Kirk, who was known by many as “Cisco”, attended Lewiston Elementary and graduated from Sky View High School where he excelled in the Future Farmers of America. He was awarded with many trophies and ribbons while raising and showing hogs, and won the tractor driving skills course competition. He attended the national FFA convention and American Legion Utah Boys State in 1978. He also attended Utah State University.
Kirk thoroughly enjoyed scouting with his dad who was his scout master. Together they attended the 1977 National Boy Scout Jamboree. He earned the rank of Eagle Scout. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Kirk followed in his father’s footsteps and served as a scout leader.
Kirk loved the outdoors. As a youth, water and snow skiing with friends and family were favorite activities. While going up any canyon he could see things, such as deer on the mountain side, long before anyone else.
Hunting became one of his passions. During the past number of years his primary interest has been in hunting coyotes and trapping in the desert.
He had a desire to help other people, especially youth, enjoy hunting. Just this past weekend he took his son, Zander and his grandson, Easton (who he “mentored”), on a successful antelope hunt. In 1990, he became a volunteer at the Cache Valley Shooting Range. This led to his career in hunter education with the Division of Wildlife Resources. He served as the manager at the shooting range (1996-2009), Assistant Hunter Education Coordinator (2009-2013) and Hunter Education Coordinator for the State of Utah (2013-present). He was recognized with numerous awards for his dedication and service.
He was an avid collector of many things…old ammo boxes, hunter education patches, golf balls, trapping
equipment, basketball cards, gizmos and gadgets of all kinds. If it was broke, he could fix it. He was like a kid on Christmas when he was in a pawn shop or surplus supply store.
Kirk’s life was blessed by his three children, Becky Smith (Bryan Winward) daughter of Teri Lyn Thompson Arnold, Logan, Utah; Holli Ann Smith (Scott Wilson) daughter of Lynne Marie Clark Bryce, Vancouver, Washington; Zander Ingram Smith son of Cathryn Lynne Smith, North Logan, Utah. He has three beloved grandchildren: Easton Michael “Tiger” Bassett son of Becky, Spencer Jerick “LeRoy” Wilson and newest granddaughter Charlee Blake “Bobo” Winward.
Kirk is survived by his mother and six siblings, LaVor Lindhardt Smith, Jr. (Karen Cole), Nampa, Idaho; Glade Swainston Smith (Debra Pitkin), Smithfield, Utah; Gerald Alan Smith (Judy Ann Smith), Lewiston, Utah; Dee William Smith (Tom Norris), Bellingham, Washington; Judy Smith Tripp (Scott Paul Tripp), Richmond, Utah and Steven Curtis Smith (Kim Brenchley), Pleasant Grove, Utah. Kirk was preceded in death by his father LaVor and his grandparents Ingram Fuhriman and Lorene Lindhardt Smith, and William and Harriet Dalley Swainston.
Visitations will be held on Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Allen Mortuary of North Logan, 420 East 1800 North, North Logan and on Tuesday prior to the funeral from 10:30 to 11:30 A.M. at the Lewiston 1st/2nd Ward LDS Ward Chapel, 10 South 1600 West, Lewiston, Utah. Funeral services will then be held at 12:00 noon under the direction of one of his childhood friends, Bishop Troy Karren. Interment will be at the Logan City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to support youth shooting sports and hunting programs would be an honor to Kirk.
