Linda Dawn Snyder Edmund

October 3, 1944 — December 1, 2019

Linda Dawn Snyder was born on October 3, 1944 in Reading, PA, to Walter Snyder and Thelma Folk Snyder. Unfortunately, Walter was killed by friendly fire in Belgium during WWII on Christmas Day, and never met his baby daughter. His army buddy, Carl Brigman, communicated with Thelma about how Walter died, and they met after the war and fell in love. Carl and Thelma married and lived in Fayetteville, NC where they had three more children; Gerry, Timothy and Pam. Linda had a happy childhood. She graduated from Fayetteville Senior High and attended Worth Business College and transferred to East Carolina University.

Linda met John Edmund while he was working for Sears and helping a friend take a heavy color TV to the shop to work on it. She was there with John’s friend’s wife. They dated about a year and John proposed at the Sear’s parking lot. They were married at Wesley Heights Methodist Church in Fayetteville, NC on March 13, 1966. About a month before they were married, John got his draft notice and enlisted in the Air Force. Shortly after they married (at great sacrifice to Linda) they moved to Amarillo, TX for basic training. From there they went to Big Spring, Texas where they met missionaries from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They came by the house while John was at work. Linda accepted “the book” but told them they would have to come back later. She called John and said “Two strange men came by...”. John had heard about the church and was eager to meet them. They were baptized about a month later on October 14, 1967. On November 16, 1968 they were sealed in the Mesa Arizona Temple and received their patriarchal blessings while there. Shortly after, Linda was delighted to find she was expecting. Two months later, she had a miscarriage. John got orders for Vietnam and was sent to Denver for additional training. While in Denver, Linda discovered she was pregnant again. Linda returned to Fayetteville to stay with her mother while John prepared to ship out. While John was in Vietnam, Heather was born. When John returned from Vietnam they settled into their happy home in Fayetteville, and had two more children, Johnny and Walter. Linda and John had many foster babies in their home. After caring for their foster baby, Steven, they decided to adopt him after a lengthy court process. They had one more child, Jason. During this time, John went back to college and Linda was the backbone of their family. John was an insurance agent for 20 years while Linda had the best career possible, raising her family of 5. Later, John worked for the church as a facilities manager with Linda as his traveling “side-kick”. They moved to Florence, South Carolina for 10 years. While in South Carolina she had congestive heart failure and began having issues with her memory. They transferred to Clayton, North Carolina until John’s retirement in 2010. At that time they chose to retire to Cache Valley, Utah.

Linda had numerous church callings including Ward Primary President, Stake Primary President, Ward Relief Society President, Counselor in Stake Relief Society Presidency and as a worker in the Columbia South Carolina Temple. Linda always welcomed everyone with a smile and had a sweet and loving personality. She never let anyone leave her home empty-handed. She had a great sense of humor too. She always wanted pictures taken of family and fun experiences, but didn’t love having her picture taken, which often resulted in sticking out her tongue! She enjoyed cooking for her family. Linda loved shopping - especially at thrift stores and yard sales (it was like a treasure hunt!). She had several collections including salt & pepper shakers, spoons, plates, bells and dolls. Her grandchildren were the joy of her life and her great grandchildren added to that joy. She enjoyed walking at Hyde Park Cemetery placing flowers on lonely graves and would often do that with visiting grandchildren.
