Louise Nielsen

June 20, 1923 — August 13, 2018

Louise Woodward Nielsen, age 95, died August 13, 2018 at Logan, Utah from causes related to age. She made her home at Williamsburg Assisted Living for the last seven and a half years. Prior to that her home was in Hyrum, Utah. She was born in Wellsville, Utah on June 20, 1923, the daughter of John Baugh Woodward and Amanda (Amy) Williams Woodward. She attended school in Wellsville and graduated from South Cache High School. On April 20, 1943 she married Ross Albert Nielsen in the Logan Temple. They made their home in Hyrum until 1967 when, because of Ross's employment, they moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Following retirement, they lived in Maryland for 18 months while they served as full-time ordinance workers in the Washington D. C. Temple. They returned to Hyrum in 1982 to spend their retirement years near family and life-long friends.

Louise was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many leadership and teaching capacities. Ross and Louise served for many years as ordinance workers in the Logan Temple. Louise served as a Relief Society president in Utah and Louisiana and was the first Stake Relief Society president in the Baton Rouge Louisiana Stake when it was organized. She was well known for her valiant testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ, was a great teacher of righteousness, and was a good example of Christ-like living. Many sought her out for answers to gospel questions.

During their farming years she participated in farm work as needed and kept a large garden. She was an excellent quilter and seamstress, and an award-winning bread maker. She loved to read and had a great appreciation for fine literature. She also enjoyed baseball.

Her home was a haven of peace and refuge for friends, family, and strangers in need. Her children and grandchildren will remember her for her practicality and hard work and also for her cookies and caramels. She had a delightful sense of humor and was known for her sage advice and wisdom.

Her husband, Ross, died in 2010. She is survived by her seven children, Amy Krambule of Logan, Dorothy Woolley (Bob) of Layton, Douglas R. Nielsen (Marlene) of Hyrum, Nedra Anderson (Tim) of Logan, Irene Anders (Paul) of Folsom, California, Evan G. Nielsen (Karen) of Flint, Texas, and Ralph B.
Nielsen (Laura) of Hyrum. She has 36 grandchildren, 105 great-grandchildren and 6 great- great- grandchildren.
