Luana Jensen Mortensen

September 5, 1925 — October 3, 2018

Luana Jensen Mortensen, our loving mother, grandmother and great- grandmother, finished her journey on earth peacefully on Wednesday, October 3, 2018, in Ogden, Utah. Luana was born September 5, 1925 to Warren M. and Helen Crookston Jensen in Hyrum, Utah. She lived absolutely faithful to the very end of her 93 years.

She graduated as Valedictorian from South Cache High School, where she met Robert J. Mortensen in the band. They courted by letter as she worked at the Navy Depot in Ogden, and he served in the infantry in Europe and Japan during WWII. They were married on May 28, 1946 in the Logan Temple. Luana quietly worked behind the scenes while Bob served the church and the community. She gave meaning to the words “behind every successful man is a great woman.” They were a wonderful team in life, raising a loving family and running a successful business. Her most cherished role was being a wife, mother and grandmother.

Luana served in many callings throughout her life. She loved serving with Bob during their mission in Texas and in the Logan Temple. She was also an amazing Stake Relief Society President for ten years. Luana was a member of DUP, and American Mothers. She was voted Cache Valley Mother of the Year in 1988. Luana loved music and sang in choirs, a trio, and played the clarinet in the Community Band. She enjoyed attending the theater and musical programs. She also loved to read and had a great talent for writing roadshows and skits. Luana was an excellent homemaker, cook, and gardener. She was an avid USU and Utah Jazz fan. She never tired, and had a great capacity to work and serve others. She was an inspiration to her family and friends .

Luana always joked that she had agreed to be the mother of 11 children, IF the Lord would promise to send her musicians. She encouraged her children to play instruments, sing and dance; and loved to attend their performances. Her greatest joy in life was her family. She is survived by her children: Karla (James) Grant, Craig Mortensen, Trudy (Rod) Blossom, Chris (Ann) Mortensen, Brent (Margaret) Mortensen, Ruth (Paul) Berntson, Pam (Corkey) Lundgren, Lora (Eric) Rigby, John (Jolene) Mortensen, Robin (Mike) Cooper, and Jan (Ron) Richins. Mom has 55 grandchildren and 86 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Zada (Claine) Clawson, and sisters-in-law Pat Jensen and Zella Mortensen. She was preceded in death by her husband Bob, her parents, her brother Reed C. Jensen, son-in-law Michael C. Earl, daughter-in-law Paulette Miles Mortensen, and 4 grandchildren.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to ComForCare, Terrace Grove, Sunshine Home Health & Hospice, Bishop Dennis Wildman and the Dry Canyon Ward for their compassionate service.
