Lucille Peterson Clark

April 8, 1929 — June 29, 2018

Lucille Peterson Clark, age 89, passed away Friday, June 29, 2018 at McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden, Utah. She was born April 8, 1929 to parents Oliver and Neveve Peterson. She was the second-youngest of eight children, followed only by her twin brother. She was raised on the family farm in Petersboro, and fondly recalled playing and exploring outside during the summer, riding horses to their one-room schoolhouse, and sliding down the staircase on a chalkboard with her brother while Mother was entertaining company.

Her intelligence and love for learning led Lucille to greatly value education. She graduated from Logan High School in 1946, and continued her education at Utah State University, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts. It was in the art department that she met her husband, Gene Carl Clark, whom she married in 1951.

Gene and Lucille had a son, Gene David, in 1953, and a daughter, Cathleen, in 1964. Lucille was involved in her ward’s Relief Society, as well as the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. She was an accomplished seamstress and cook. Her interests were many and varied: crocheting, knitting, embroidery, horticulture, birdwatching, tole painting, and all manner of crafts, which she gifted to others through the years. Her three grandchildren were the center of her world, and she cherished the close, individual relationships she had with each of them.

Lucille wanted to learn about anything and everything. She had an iron-clad memory, devoured books, and kept busy with gardening, doing puzzles, caring for her pets, and spending time with her family. Lucille’s impish personality, spunk, and passion for life never wavered, nor did her desire to keep dreaming—even at age 89, she was ready to get her first tattoo and was making plans to visit the Redwoods. Friends and family alike felt the warmth of her kindness and generosity, as well as her endless, loving support. She was a constant light to many, and will be truly missed by all who knew her.

Lucille has been reunited in death with her parents, siblings, and husband. She is survived by her children, David (Judith) Clark, and Cathy Clark-Hale, and her three grandchildren, Rachel, Erica, and Hunter Hale, as well as countless other family members and friends.

A visitation for friends and family will be held Tuesday, July 10 at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center in Logan, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A graveside service at the Logan Cemetery will follow at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Cache Humane Society.
