Marguerite "Marge" Nielsen Purser

April 24, 1930 — September 8, 2017

Our lovely, Mother, Marguerite Nielsen Purser, completed her earthly life at the age of 87. She loved life and all those who were part of it. Her positive energy and genuine aura drew everyone to her. She will be truly missed by her adoring family and friends.
Mom was the 7th child of 10, born on April 24, 1930 to Morris and LaVeda Allen Nielsen. She grew up in Hyrum, Utah and graduated from South Cache High School. She and her nine siblings lived in a small two-bedroom rock home in Hyrum and then later moved through the block into her grandparent’s large brick Victorian home. She felt as if she had moved into a castle. She recalled memories of parties in the formal parlor, as well as learning a strong work ethic from her parents as they tended the sheep and farmed their land.
At an early age, Mom demonstrated her courage and independence. She recalled at age 8, she and a friend, Marilyn Nielsen, rode the train from Hyrum to Logan to buy herself a new dress and white shoes for her baptism. She cherished her membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, remarking that she made the decision to be baptized and knew for herself that the church was true. She told wonderful stories of growing up in a small town and tending the sheep with her younger sisters in Blacksmith Fork Canyon. Her first “real” job was at JC Penney in Logan. There she learned salesmanship, dedication, loyalty and hard work. Mom was ambitious, fearless and loved a challenge.
While at a dance in the Elite Hall in Hyrum, she met our Dad, Ramon Purser. They loved to dance and it didn’t take long for him to catch her eye with his skill on the dance floor and the rest is, as they say, “history!” They were married in the Logan Temple, June 23, 1949. They lived and raised their family in Hyde Park, Utah. After nearly 60 years in Hyde Park and the passing of Dad in December of 2015, Mom moved to Fielding, Utah, to live with her daughter Cathy until her passing.
Mom and Dad were blessed with five children. Dennis, Janet, Cathy, Cindy and Roger. As a busy mom raising her children, she was also PTA President. Mom always wanted to help contributed to the family income. She worked as a numerator for the U.S. Government, sold Beauty Counselor and Ovation cosmetics from her home, and was a bookkeeper for Smith’s Food King for many years. She built and managed Purser Warehousing which she ran and managed until just recently. She always had a desire to own and operate her own business. Corner Beauty and Suntan was her first retail adventure, and she enjoyed the business for many years working alongside her daughters Cathy and Cindy and our Dad. Always the entrepreneur, she soon expanded to an exercise and fitness business on Center Street and later combined the two businesses. She eventually, along with her daughter Cathy, purchased The Consignment Co. on Federal Avenue and had nine wonderful years working together and creating wonderful friendships.
She finally retired, to the delight of our Dad. They loved gardening, traveling and especially decorating their home for every holiday. They loved spending time with their children and especially doting over and spoiling their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Patio parties and ice cream cones are treasured memories of all the grandkids!
Mom and Dad taught us and were a tremendous example of a life well lived. Their work ethic, strong faith, love and dedication to family, friends and neighbors will always be remembered
She was preceded in death by her husband Ramon, daughter Cindy, great-granddaughter Kennedy Jibson and parents Morris and LaVeda Nielsen. Siblings Claris Jensen, Darrell Nielsen, Carol Larsen, Edward Nielsen, Jack Nielsen, Gerad Nielsen, Lennis Nielsen, Joan Muir and Jeannie Muir.
She is survived by her children Dennis Purser, Janet (Ron) Jibson, Cathy (Brad) Hoggan, Roger (Jeanne) Purser, 14 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Special thanks goes out to Holly and Vicky from Community Nursing Services. Also, the Hyde Park 2nd Ward and Relief Society for all their love and support.
