Obituary for Nancy Hale Hall

Nancy Hale Hall, passed away peacefully, after a long battle with dementia, on November 16, 2022 in Logan, Utah. She was born September 13, 1942 in Blackfoot, Idaho the only daughter of John LaThare Hale and Lois Reynolds Hale. Nancy was blessed to be raised in a home where the gospel of Jesus Christ was taught and lived. This experience was the foundation to her future life of steady faith and caring service.

Nancy valued her experiences growing up on a farm in Groveland, Idaho before the family moved into Blackfoot. After high school she went on to graduate from Ricks College with a secretarial certificate before being called to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Brazil South mission, speaking Portuguese. That experience would influence her life and her family in a myriad of ways.

After returning from her missionary service Nancy attended Brigham Young University and graduated as valedictorian and recipient of an associate degree in business. She later would receive a Bachelor of Arts degree in business from Utah State University. Her education was very influential in her future professional pursuits, and in her opportunities to give voluntary service in her Church and community.

In 1968, while in Blackfoot, Idaho to be with her family for Christmas, she met Hyrum Arnold Hall. Their mothers, both nurses in the same medical clinic, “conspired” to introduce them and, in their words, “see what happens.” For Hyrum it was love at first sight. It took Nancy a few hours longer. They were married on March 21, 1969 in the Salt Lake City Temple for time and all eternity. At the time they met, Hyrum was an officer in the United States Air Force and was stationed at Minot AFB, North Dakota. Their courtship and marriage are a true love story to be remembered. They have continued to be best friends, loving and supportive companions, and committed to each other since their marriage. Together they are blessed with five daughters, 21 grandchildren and, 4 great-grandchildren.

During their married life they traveled extensively and lived in many places in the country and world. In addition to North Dakota and Utah, they lived in Egypt, Indiana, Tennessee, California, Mexico, and Russia. Nancy and Hyrum enjoyed being together and serving together. Nancy had a gift for learning languages. She spoke fluent Portuguese and Spanish. She learned to speak and communicate in Arabic while living in Egypt and Russian while living in Moscow.

Nancy was a person who was dedicated to serving others. In addition to her devoted and faithful care for her family, she also made time to serve others in her neighborhood and community. Her membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and her testimony of the truthfulness of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ were very important to her. They were a guide in her many acts of service to others, wherever she lived.

Nancy will be remembered as a loving, dedicated, and loyal wife, mother, friend, and grandmother who read books to her grandchildren, played games, had treats, and loved them. As a family, we have been greatly blessed by her caring and faith-filled life.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents; parents-in-laws, Myrtle N.M. and Hyrum E. Hall; brother Ronald (Linda) Hale; brothers-in-law Marc E. (Cherri) Hall and Phil J. Campbell; sister-in-law Frances Hale; son-in-law, Darin F. Duersch; and great-grandson, Canyon C. Andrew. She is survived by her husband, Hyrum; her daughters, Julie Duersch, Annalee (Ray) Andrew, Charlotte (Christoffer) Hansen, Susan (Matthew) Roylance, and Naomi Hall; 21 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren; brothers Robert E. (Tana) Hale and Brent D. (Linda) Hale; sisters-in-law Betty Campbell, Naomi (Val) Christensen, and Rachel (John) Courtright.

In lieu of flowers, we invite you to honor her memory by serving others, as she did. Serve someone who is lonely, tired, hungry, or in any distress. The family would like to give special and heart filled thanks to the caregivers at Sunshine Terrace who cared so tirelessly and lovingly for our wife, mother, grandmother, and sister during the last few years.

Our family will celebrate her life in a private service at a later date. Her earthly remains will be buried in the Logan City Cemetery, Logan, Utah.
