Peggy Thorpe Baer

February 19, 1924 — March 26, 2017

Peggy Thorpe Baer passed away Sunday March 26th, 2017 at the Cache Valley Assisted Living Center in Providence surrounded by her family.
Peggy was born in Logan Utah on February 19th, 1924 the third daughter of Gilbert and Mary Woodward Thorpe. She was named Margret Jane Thorpe, but has been known her entire life as “Peggy”. She grew up in Logan and spent most of her childhood living on 49 Marindale Ave. Her father owned Logan Music Store and she worked there in her teenage years. She graduated from Logan High School.
Peggy was a very accomplished dancer and performed for audiences all over Cache Valley. She also taught dancing for many years.
After graduating from High School, she attended USU for a short time. However, it was during the war years and young women were needed to help in the factories to build war supplies. So, after working a summer at Bryce Canyon she worked at the Utah General Depot in Ogden and then at Wicks Engineering in Logan.
She met A. Lex Baer at a church dance and they were married on March 20th, 1947. They are the parents of six children including two sets of twins.
Mom has enjoyed being a member of the LaDessa Club in Providence (a service and social organization) for more than 50 years. She also sang for many years in the Bel Canto Chorus.
Peggy was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served for over 10 years as a teacher in the Sunbeam class in Primary. She has served in Relief Society Presidencies and Primary Presidencies. She has also given service in the PTA and as a Pink Lady Volunteer at Logan Regional Hospital.
Mom worked part time for a few years at the Gold Strike Stamp store, but has spent most of her married life at home being a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. After her two sisters passed away, she also helped take care of her brother Richard “Sonny” Thorpe for many years until he passed away.
Mom’s real passion in life has been watching, first Lex play fast pitch softball and then watching her son, daughters and grandchildren and great grandchildren in their many activities. She was also an avid Jazz fan. Mom and dad spent time traveling with their children and grandchildren and especially enjoyed following Kent in his coaching activities. They really enjoyed having all the family attend the Rose Bowl in 1999 when Kent was coaching at Stanford, along with their trips to Notre Dame when Kent was coaching there.
Peggy and Lex were avid supporters of USU and are members of the Old Main Society.
Peggy and Lex enjoyed spending their winters in Ahwatukee, Arizona and their summers at the family cabin in Alpine Wyo.
Peggy is survived by her husband of 70 years A. Lex Baer and 6 children and their spouses. Cathy (Lee Parker). Coy (Gary) Jensen. Kent Lex Baer, Karen (Tim) Hess, Cindy (Chad) Lindley, and Collette Ryall.
Also, Survived by her 22 grandchildren: Tiffany Parker Hollingworth, Wendy Parker, Lindsay (Parker) Jensen.
