Rodney Owen Kirby

October 21, 1958 — April 1, 2019

Rodney Owen Kirby, 60, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, April 1, surrounded by loving family. He had bravely battled cancer. He was born on October 21, 1958 to Sherwin and Connie Kirby, and was the oldest of three boys. After serving an LDS mission in Frankfurt, Germany, Rod met Gaye Murray and they married on June 21, 1981 in the Logan LDS Temple. He graduated from the University of Utah in 1981 with a degree in Computer Science. He had a very successful career in project management and made many life-long friends along the way.

Rod was an exceedingly patient, fun-loving, and hard-working individual. His favorite hobbies included golfing, boating, skiing, riding his Harley, and anything that got his hands dirty. He always had a project going and could often be seen in his yard on a weekend morning. If you knew Rod, you would know he was always the one to lighten the mood. His laugh and smile were infectious. During his battle with cancer, Rod kept an amazing sense of humor and hope throughout the entire process. Even at the end, he had a smile on his face.

Rod is survived by his loving wife, Gaye; his 4 children, Tyler (Becky) Kirby, Brett (Olivia) Kirby, Scott (Lindsay) Kirby, and Nicole (Nick) Litizzette; 7 grandchildren, Grayson, Lyla, Ryker, Kaylee, Faye, Jase, Derek; his mother Connie; brothers Jeff and Chris (Mary); brothers-in-law Carl Murray, Jed (Marilyn) Murray, Chris (Roxanne) Murray; and sister-in-law Marilee (David) McBride. Rod was preceded in death by his father Sherwin and sister-in-law Gail.

Our family would like to thank Dr. Stephen Leong and staff at University of Colorado Hospital, Huntsman Cancer Institute, and Tender Care Hospice. We would also like to express our sincere gratitude for the outpouring love and support from family, friends, neighbors, and the Wellsville 8th Ward.

Funeral services are under the direction of Allen-Hall Mortuary and will be held on Tuesday, April 9, at 11 a.m. at the Wellsville 8th Ward building (49 West 200 South), with a viewing prior to the service from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. There will also be a viewing held on Monday, April 8, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center St, Logan. Interment will be at the Wellsville Cemetery.
