Ross Speth Jessop

June 13, 1936 — September 8, 2017

Ross Speth Jessop, 81, of Hyrum, passed away Friday, September 8, 2017 in North Logan. He was born June 13, 1936 in Nibley, Utah to Charles Reed and Bertha Pauline Jessop. He was the fourth child in a family of six where he grew up learning the value of hard work.

He attended Millville Elementary and South Cache High School, where he met his high school sweetheart, Carol Nielsen. They were married on September 21, 1956 and made their home in Hyrum. Together they raised three children.

Ross was a drywall sheetrocker by trade and operated a dry farm outside of Hyrum. He was an avid sportsman and loved being outdoors hunting and fishing. Many hunting trips were taken with his brother Ray, his sons, Curtis and Rick, and various friends. In 2000 he took a trip to Alaska where he caught two 150 lb halibut within 30 minutes time! He was in heaven! He had to call Carol long distance to share the exciting news with her! Ross also loved to garden. He would always plant a big garden and spend many hours watering, weeding and tending to his vegetables. The last few years he was encouraged to plant less and avoid having so much work, but he loved it; the garden gave him a purpose to work outside and he was not to be talked out of it! There was nothing like the fresh produce that he harvested and he readily shared his bounty with family, friends and neighbors.

He is survived by his wife, Carol; children, Leslie (Kirk) Allred, North Ogden, UT, Curtis (deceased) (Sheila) Jessop, Nibley, UT; and Rick (Simone) Jessop, Oak Ridge, NC; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sisters, Delores Wolcott, Phoenix, AZ, and Carol Leishman, Wellsville, UT. He was proceeded in death by his parents; brothers, RL Jessop, Ray Jessop, Clair Lex Jessop; and son, Curtis Ross Jessop.

A viewing will be held at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street, Logan, on Friday, September 15, 2017 from 6-8 pm. Graveside services will be held at Millville Cemetery on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 11:00 am.
