Taylor Carlyle Hutton

Taylor Carlyle Hutton, 97, passed away on Thursday, October 5, 2017 in Logan.
His parents were Taylor William and Irene Pond Hutton, and was welcomed by his one and only sister,Virginia. And they were their only children. He served four and a half years in the military during World War II. Carlyle has lived his entire life in Hyrum. He has a very strong love and feelings for his home town and great memories of his childhood. Some of his accomplishments to be known for are: He was one of the first people to swim ompletely the length of the Hyrum Dam in his youth. Carlyle's father built and owned the original Hyrum Drug where he earned the workings and responsibilities of caring for a business and enjoying people. Working in the pharmacy and making the BEST ice cream gave him great pleasure. Young and old folks carne to the soda fountain to visit and enjoy his ice cream "Pig's Dinner".Serving in the 184 Infantry Battalion Division, he was stationed in the Aleutian Islands and later the Southern Philippines. Remembering the decorations and citations awarded him; he is very humble for his opportunities. Being given the Victory Medal, American Defense Service Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Theater Service Ribbon, and the Philippine Liberation Service Ribbon. Returning from serving his country, he resumed working at the Hyrum Drug. In 1947 he married Ora Olney, together they raised 4 children. Now his posterity numbers 24 Grandchildren, 42 Great-Grand- children and 2 Great-Great-Grandchildren. Carlyle has three daughters, Karen Saltern, Cynde (Hyrum) Covert, Peggy (Val) Sanders. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ora, a sister, Virginia, a son, Robert Glen Lundberg, a son-in-law, Steven Saltern, a granddaughter, Tiffany, a grandson, Christopher Dorigatti. Later in life, he worked for Hyrum City and retired from there. He and his wife owned and operated the first Laundromat in Hyrum on Main Street, with Roy Dee and Zora Larsen. He was also in partnership with the Hyrum Feed Mill for some years. When a volunteer Fire Department was first introduced to Hyrum, Carlyle (as he is known by all his friends) was one of the first to join and was also the first Fire chief. When Hyrum town was still small years ago, Carlyle was the Town recorder. He spent many nights making sure of correct procedures and kept up on town policies. In the years when The Elite Hall was "THE" place to be on weekends for the dances wi th a Live Band ... The Mendon Jazz, Carlyle was the janitor and care- taker, also selling tickets each Saturday Night. Carlyle was an active member of the American Legion Post 47 and the Hyrum J.C.'s all his years. Taylor was a great fisherman and spent many good hours up Blacksmith Fork Canyon. Hunting and camping with their trailer was something they looked forward to in the summers. He has always maintained a beautiful vegetable garden and taken pride in a manicured yard. A LIFE WELL SPENT! The family very much appreciates the staff at the Rocky Mountain Care Center for their great support and willingness with happy help and kindness. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at 11:00 am in the Hyrum City Cemetery with Military Honors by the American Legion Post 47 and a Hyrum Firefighters Last Call.
