Thomas Daniel Hall Lloyd

March 29, 1934 — September 5, 2019

Thomas Daniel Hall Lloyd was born March 29, 1934, passed away September 5, 2019 in his home in Logan, Utah. He was born in Wellsville, Utah to Henry Haslam Lloyd and Maude Hall Lloyd. He was the 9th of eleven children – one being stillborn. Shortly after his birth, they moved to Grace, Idaho where he grew up on the family farm. He enjoyed the farming/ranching life in so many ways. He was always proud to be a graduate of Grace High School where he was an Idaho All-Star basketball player. He was drafted in the army shortly after high school during the end of the Korean War. He was active duty from 1953-1955 and then served in the reserves from 1955-1961.
After returning home in 1956, he married Joylene Rawlins Mendenhall and they were sealed in the Logan Temple April 27, 1964. They were blessed with 5 children. Randy (Gillian) of Grace; Renae (Lyndie) Kaysville; Ryan (Julie) Grace; Rory (Leslie) Grace; Robyn Andersen, Burley; 18 grandchildren and 19 great grand-children. Tom and Joylene later divorced in 1987.
Dad was an all-around man who took pride in all he did. He was always involved in community service. He served on the school board and enjoyed helping coach high school basketball for many years. Dad’s true passion was farming- his grain, hay and potatoes were some of the best in the valley. He loved ranching and it showed in the quality of livestock that he owned. Good quarter horses he did love and we had plenty of them to go around – saddle horses, brood mares, stallions, and race horses. He truly found nothing more enjoyable than riding his horse through the cattle or on the seat of a tractor! He believed in putting a full day in at work and doing things right the first time.
In 1987, he married his wife Mary Ann Cobb Haviland and moved to Cache Valley adding her daughter, Angie.
He had such a great love for all little kids and he would always be handing out popsicles or his famous puff rice balls. He became a “true” Aggie Fan and loved wearing blue. He continued his education to become a certified welder then became employed at Morton International in 1990. At Morton he received the award for Managing Total Quality and continued to cherish his life-long friends that he met while working there. He served in various LDS church callings and even installed ramps for the elderly in his ward.
Dad had a “can do” attitude. He taught by example that hard work was the best medicine - he was still hauling potatoes at the age of 85. He had a genuine love for people and has touched many lives over the years. No one was a stranger to dad. He would give the shirt off his back and drive any length to reach someone in need. He would say, “I’ll be there.” His 1999 Ford pickup with 559,993 miles has been a delivery truck for ALL; loaded with potatoes, bottled water, treats and goodies or parts for his boy’s farm. He was the epitome of one who had selfless interest in others by greeting you with a handshake, have a listening ear, then want to feed you. He made everyone feel welcome who walked through his doors.
Some of Dad’s treasured memories were those spent with family. He loved watching or playing a good game of basketball and would pull out his old white converse gym shoes. He would tell you his greatest accomplishments in life were his family. He was exceptionally proud of his grandchildren and loved watching and coaching them from the sidelines. They will all claim they were his favorite because he had a way of making them all feel special. They brought such great joy to him. Thanks for the great legacy you left behind!
Our family would like to thank Tender Care Health and Hospice for the kind and compassionate care they have provided to our father the past three weeks.
