Valoy Dutson Bailey

July 31, 1933 — March 12, 2023

Our beloved mother, grandmother, and friend Valoy Dutson Bailey passed away peacefully on March 12, 2023 following complications of a long standing illness and injuries. Valoy was born in Ogden, Utah on July 31, 1933 to Lellon and Elnora Dutson, afterword the family moved to Cache Valley where she grew up. Valoy's early years were spent helping out on the farm, enjoying nature, and being a good sister to her four siblings. She attended North Logan Elementary and finished her education at South Cache High School.

Valoy loved music, especially singing, and she participated in choir and small vocal ensembles all through high school. She was a lovely lady with a lovely voice, and with her long auburn hair she was a hit with the boys. Her sister said they needed a revolving door to accommodate all her suitors, but alas, right after high school she met the love of her life, Homer Bailey and all competition was shut down.

They were married in the Logan LDS Temple on April 17, 1953. Soon afterwords they moved to Gooding, Idaho while working a ranch and starting their family. Soon afterwards Homer got a job at Hill Air Force Base and they moved to Wellsville which they called home for more the 25 years. Valoy thoroughly loved life and people and her desire was to make those she visited with feel better about themselves. Many a neighbor benefited from her visits and freshly baked cookies and breads, the rest of her time was centered around raising 4 rambunctious boys and being a wonderful wife and homemaker. They couldn't afford expensive vacations but they loved the great outdoors and many wonderful memories were centered around camping and fishing excursions taken together. As empty nesters they began to take trips to Alaska, Washington D.C., and Germany. Valoy, when having a trying day would say, "I think I'll move to Alaska".

Valoy continued her love of music and singing. As an honor for her 80th birthday, she was allowed to sing with her son at a Mormon Tabernacle Choir rehearsal, which became one of the highlights of her life.

Valoy had a strong testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and served faithfully in many callings. She and Homer served as local missionaries together, working at the LDS church farm and food pantry. When she lost her 2 sons in death at an early age, she knew without a doubt that she would see them again. Her faith in her church and her Savior never faltered. She and Homer not only endured to the end, but they endured well till the end.

Valoy's final years were spent at the Sunshine Terrace and Terrace Grove assisted living center. She felt right at home there visiting the staff, nurses, and residents and leaving them with hope, love and her trademark acrylic hearts. She was know as, "The Ambassador of Love". Valoy and her family would like to thank the staff, nurses, and residents for providing such wonderful care for so many years. We also thank the nurses at Logan Regional Hospital for their TLC during her illnesses.

Valoy is preceded in death by her parents Lellon and Elnora Dutson, her two sons Russell and Steven Bailey, her two brothers and sister Lellon, Cloyd, and Elinor, and her beloved husband Homer. She is survived by her sons Michael and Jeff, her sister Gail Jenson, and her many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

There will be a viewing at Allen Hall mortuary in Logan on Saturday, March 25 from 10:00 to 11:30, followed by funeral services at noon. Graveside services will be held at the Wellsville Cemetery following the funeral, and a family luncheon will be held at the Logan 9th Ward church.
