Our husband and father, William Nelson Hatch, returned to his heavenly home on February 15, 2018.
Nelson was born May 18, 1947, in Idaho Falls, ID. He was the eldest child of William (Bill) and Helen Hatch. When Nelson was four, the family moved to Spanish Fork, UT, and he spent his childhood there. He loved participating in Boy Scouts and earned his Eagle. He received a Masters Degree in Therapeutic Recreation from Brigham Young University and enjoyed a long career with the Boy Scouts of America.
While at BYU, Nelson met NorRene Smith, and they were married in the Logan LDS Temple on April 3, 1970. They waited for many years and were eventually blessed with two children, Annalise and William (Billy).
Nelson had a strong testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. He served an honorable LDS mission in the Central States. In his later years, he enjoyed serving as an ordinance worker in the Logan Temple.
Nelson had a love of beautiful music. He played the saxophone in the BYU Cougar Marching Band. He enjoyed attending classical concerts and listening to his children play their instruments. Nelson also loved to garden and found joy in keeping an immaculate yard.
Nelson held a special place in his heart for his grandchildren. They brought out a tender side that many didn’t see. We are grateful for many miracles that extended his life so he could enjoy his grandchildren.
Nelson is survived by his wife, NorRene; children, Annalise (Tim) Smith and Billy (Jessie) Hatch; and grandchildren, Ariana, Olivia, and Isaac Smith and Evelyn and Oliver Hatch. He is also survived by two brothers, Steven (Colleen) Hatch and David (DeeAnne) Hatch, and one sister, Becky (Mark) Warner. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 22, 2018, at 11:00 am at the North Logan Stake Center, 2750 North 800 East in North Logan. A viewing will be held immediately before from 9:00 am to 10:30 am. Interment will be in the North Logan Cemetery. Condolences and memories may be shared with the family online at
