Beth Nielson Sorenson

April 21, 1944 — October 25, 2023

Smithfield, Utah

Beth Nielson Sorenson of Smithfield, Utah, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2023 at age 79, due to dementia.

Born April 21, 1944 in Salt Lake City, Utah, Beth was the first child of Wanda (Greene) and Enos Nielson. The first 15 years of her life were spent with her family in Lockerby and Eastland, in southeastern Utah, attending school in Eastland and Monticello. In 1960, she moved with her parents and four siblings to Smithfield, Utah. She attended North Cache High School in Richmond, graduating in May of 1962. After high school she worked various jobs, including secretarial work at the LDS Church offices in Salt Lake City. In late 1964, she returned to Smithfield, where she met and dated Ralph Gaylard Sorenson. They were married on August 5, 1966 in the Logan LDS Temple. They made their home in Smithfield and together raised six children: five sons and one daughter.

Her loved ones describe her as loving, patient, loyal, spiritual, and selfless. She was creative and enjoyed cooking, sewing, and gardening. Her bread and pies were a family favorite. As a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she valued the scriptures, the Gospel of Jesus Christ, her husband, and her children and loved serving her family.

Beth was preceded in death by her parents, Wanda and Enos Nielson, and two brothers-in-law: Merrit Coleman and George Walker. She is survived by her husband, Ralph Sorenson; six children, Steve, Keith (Shaunna), Mike (Laura), Sandra (Marcus) Daley, Jason and Ryan; six grandchildren; sisters, Elaine Coleman, Ann (Tom) Gibbons, and Barbara Walker; and brother, Mark (Patricia) Nielson.

Funeral services to celebrate and honor Beth's life will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, November 4 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 79 E 200 South, Smithfield, Utah, with a viewing from 10:30-11:45 am prior to services (a family prayer is planned for 11:45 am). Interment will follow the services at Smithfield City Cemetery.
