Blaine Larsen Olsen

October 17, 1935 — January 8, 2026

Hyrum, Utah

Blaine Larsen Olsen, 90, of Hyrum, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Blaine was born on October 17, 1935, in Wellsville, Utah. He was the oldest of five children born to Ray and Ivean Olsen, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his younger brother, Ray Deloy and his daughter, Debbie. Blaine is survived by his wife, DeAnn, twin brother, DeWayne, and his younger twin sisters, Janet and Joan.

Blaine graduated from South Cache High School in 1953. Following high school, Blaine and his twin brother, DeWayne, enlisted in the military and served overseas in Germany. The two hotshot brothers were quickly recruited to the Army skeet shooting team. Blaine was especially proud of his time on the team and the recognition he earned as one of its top shooters, collecting numerous patches and trophy cups while competing throughout Europe.

On August 3, 1956, Blaine married the love of his life, DeAnn Archibald Olsen, in the Logan LDS Temple. Together they enjoyed 69 wonderful years of marriage in Hyrum, including the past 60 years in the same home- a testament to their devotion, commitment, and perhaps a reluctance to move.

Blaine and DeAnn are the proud parents of four children: Susan Olsen Pehrson (James), Debbra “Debbie” Olsen Coleman (Scott, both deceased), Brian Blaine Olsen, and Michael Allen Olsen (Brenda). Their legacy continues through 17 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and soon, their first great-great-grandchild- bringing the family to five generations.

One of Blaine’s greatest joys in life was his family. He never missed an opportunity to tell them, “I love you dearly,” often followed by breaking into one of his favorite songs, “A Bushel and a Peck,” complete with the famous line, “I love you a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck.” It was impossible not to smile when Grandpa Blaine started singing.

Blaine worked for 33 years at Morton Thiokol, where he served as an electrician and later a foreman. He was known for his strong work ethic, steady leadership, and ability to get things done right.

Throughout his life, Blaine served faithfully in many callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved sharing his testimony with his family and others and was especially proud to serve a full-time mission with DeAnn in the Florida Tallahassee Mission from 1996 to 1997. Blaine also served as an ordinance worker in the Logan LDS Temple for two and a half years.

Blaine and DeAnn enjoyed escaping the cold Cache Valley winters and spent 22 years as “snowbirds” in Yuma, Arizona. There, Blaine enthusiastically participated in pool shooting, cornhole, golf, and shuffleboard competitions. He was also a crowd favorite at the park’s talent nights, where his classic “dad jokes” were delivered with perfect timing.

Blaine and DeAnn shared a love for ballroom dancing and often tried to coax their reluctant children onto the dance floor. Blaine also loved staying active, playing slow-pitch softball, hunting, and fishing.

Music was another of Blaine’s passions. He played the electric guitar, taught guitar lessons, and performed in a band with his twin brother and his dear friend, Lewis Dabb. The band could often be found playing “Blue Moon” and an assortment of Johnny Cash favorites at the Hyrum Elite Hall and other venues throughout Cache Valley.

Services and viewings will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 600 S. 200 E., Hyrum, Utah. Viewings will be held on Sunday, January 11, from 5:00-7:00 p.m., and Monday, January 12, from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 12, at 11:00 a.m., followed by interment at the Hyrum Cemetery.
