On June 19, 2026, Bruce Montell Von Niederhausern passed away peacefully in the home he lived in for 84 years. He was born June 27, 1941 to Cornelia W. De Waal and Alma Von Niederhausern. Bruce was the 5th of 13 children. From a young age, Bruce worked hard to provide for himself and help his family, even learning to drive heavy equipment for construction. Bruce was a member of the Logan community his whole life, attending the Logan 19th ward and graduating from Logan High School in 1959.
Bruce served in the Army during the Vietnam War and was trained at Ford Ord California as a mechanic. After training, he was assigned to a floating bridge battalion in Fort Lewis, Washington. In 1964, Bruce was called up to Alaska to guard property from looters after a severe earthquake.
After his honorable discharge from the US Army, Bruce returned to construction, working for years with LeGrand Johnson Construction as a heavy equipment operator. He cut out the mountains in Sardine Canyon where the current road exists. He helped build interstate highways in western Wyoming, central and southern Utah including I-15, I-70, and I-80.
Bruce loved hunting and fishing. He hunted deer, bears, and bobcats in Wyoming, Idaho, and Utah. His fishing trips took him from Logan Canyon for brook trout, to Alaska for salmon, and the Florida keys for barracuda. His room at home had so many trophies it sometimes scared his little nieces and nephews.
Bruce was skilled at all kinds of games. During the war, he won large amounts of money which he sent home so his mom could feed and clothe his younger siblings. At home he played rousing games of Risk, Monopoly, Hearts and It Came To Pass, winning hours of laughter and not having to do the dishes. He generously shared his good humor. The joy in his eyes was contagious, and his jokes had people rolling on the floor and his mischievous pranks kept people on their toes.
After his father and mother died, Bruce took over the management of the family home on 10th North. Nephews, nieces, and grand-nieces came to stay at the home while they attended Utah State University. Bruce had only one requirement: they had to go with him to his favorite restaurant Angie’s. He had many friends there and knew the waiters and waitresses by name. Bruce loved to attend graduations, military commissionings and promotions, weddings, and baptisms of his many relatives. He would travel all across the United States to be at the events.
In his last years, Bruce was loved and cared for by his nephew and grand-nieces in the home he loved so much. They were with him when he went to his Paradisiacal Home. Bruce is preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Alma, Robert, Marilyn, Richard, Sheila, Elizabeth, and Cynthia. Bruce is survived by five brothers, Cornelius, Rudolf, Lamont, Hugh and Gordon, as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnephews and grandnieces who love and will miss him.
Bruce will be remembered for his unfailing generosity to everyone: his family, neighbors and friends. God bless you Bruce, you are a special son of your Heavenly Father.
