Bryan Chris Mortensen passed away peacefully and unexpectedly on November 28, 2025. He was born in Logan, Utah on October 2, 1975. He was the second of three children born to Chris Warren Mortensen and Paulette Miles Mortensen. He was nicknamed “Huss” by his brother, and the moniker stuck for the rest of his life.
Bryan attended Wilson Elementary, Logan Junior High, and Logan High schools. He graduated from Logan High in 1993. He rode on a float, clad in full football gear, when he was a very handsome 5 year old, and was the star of the USU Homecoming parade. Bryan learned to ski at the age of four, and quickly became quite proficient in the sport. During his teenage years he switched to snowboarding. He spent many happy, fun-filled days on the slopes at Beaver Mountain with friends and family. He even got to snowboard in the French Alps on a particularly memorable trip. He also really loved Grand Targhee resort, where his family spent Christmas one year.
Bryan was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of eight. This was a struggle for him, but he never complained. He received a kidney/pancreas transplant at the age of 25. This greatly improved his quality of life and was a great blessing. Bryan worked in construction for many years, mostly as an electrician. He enjoyed the work and was good at it. He liked adventure and even tried skydiving once. He enjoyed time with his parents camping, fishing, hunting, skiing and horseback riding in his younger years. Bryan was known to be an accomplished pool player (shark). He was a big rock music fan and enjoyed going to concerts with his partner, Emily. He loved her children and granddaughter. He was very intelligent and perceptive and also possessed an incredible memory. He was witty and funny in a quiet and sarcastic way, but was never disrespectful to anyone. He endured many setbacks and hardships in his life, but didn’t complain and kept moving forward.
Bryan was preceded in death by his mother, Paulette Mortensen, uncles, Craig Miles, Jon Miles, Craig Mortensen, and Rod Blossom, and his grandparents. He is survived by many uncles and aunts, a daughter, Tenaya Donnell, his father, Chris (Ann) Mortensen, sister, Michelle (Johnny) Carlson, brother, Kevin (Lisa Russell) Mortensen, niece, Lucia Anderson, nephews, Ethan Mortensen, Dylan Roberts and TJ Carlson; long time best friend and partner, Emily Wight, her children, Josh, Savannah, and Gabby, and her granddaughter, Kya.
