Carole Nelson Pattee

Carole Nelson Pattee, 88, of Logan, Utah passed away Sunday, July 31, 2011 at Sunshine Terrace in Logan. She was born on July 27, 1923 in College Ward, Cache County, Utah to Orville Elias and Esther Theresa Eames Nelson, the third child in a family of ten children.
Carole attended the College Ward Elementary School, Wellsville Jr. High School, and graduated from South Cache High School in 1941. She has enjoyed serving on all their reunion committees since her graduation. Following high school graduation she attended the LDS Business College in Salt Lake City, and later enrolled at USAC (now USU). Shortly after World War II began, Carole left college and went to work as a secretary at the Defense Depot in Ogden, Utah.
Carole was married to Ariel L. Maughan on November 5, 1942 (later divorced). They became the parents of one daughter, Nancy Carole Maughan. On September 7, 1957 Carole married Robert E. Pattee. They made their home in Logan, where two more children, Kari Ann and H. Brian Pattee, were born. Robert (Pat) passed away on April 16, 1992.
Carole has always been an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She enjoyed serving in many ward and stake auxiliary organizations, and was a visiting teacher for many years. She loved people and enjoyed volunteering at the Logan Regional Hospital’s Information Desk for ten years. She was an active member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers Organization (Thomas X. Smith Camp). She was a helpful and concerned neighbor, a genuine friend, and was most appreciative of the many kindnesses shown to her, especially as her health declined in recent months. Carole was an enthusiastic sports fan and also enjoyed reading, scrap booking, and working on genealogy. She was active in family research and led out in organizing annual reunions for many years. Carole had a great love for her family and extended families, and looked forward to family gatherings. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also loved to keep in touch with her many friends. Every person Carole met was important to her. She was a good conversationalist, with a keen mind and remarkable memory. She also loved homemaking and attending her children’s activities as they grew up.
Carole worked as a Deputy in the Cache County Assessor’s Office for seven years, prior to her marriage in 1957. She was employed by the Farmers Home Administration as an Office Clerk (for Cache and Rich Counties) for five years, and was an Assistant in the Media Center at the Adams Elementary School for four years. Carole worked as an Executive Secretary in the Provost’s Office at Utah State University for 15 years, and served part-time in the Vice President for Research office for 11 years. She loved working “on campus” and the many lasting friendships it brought into her life.
Carole is survived by one son and two daughters, Nancy M. Sloniger (Eddie) of Irvine, California, Kari Ann P. Bradfield (Jason) of Logan, Utah, and H. Brian Pattee (Keri Lee) of Wellsville, Utah; six grandchildren, Deborah S. Asplund (Karl) and Lisa S. Dorst (Chris) of Draper, Utah, Jeffrey M. Sloniger (Stacie) of Irvine, California, Jordan M .
