Carolyn Kay Murray Leong

Carolyn Kay Murray was born on May 16,1942 in Twin Falls, Idaho, the sixth of six children born to Margaret Kerr Hawkes and Junius Baily Murray.

Carolyn was preceded in death by Amanda Lee, Mary Kay, Junius Blaine, and Margaret LaRay. Her living siblings include RJay, Byron, and Isabell. 

Carolyn spent her first 4 years in Filer, Idaho until the farm her father run was sold and the family moved to Coltman for a year after which the family moved to Serelda, Idaho where her mother taught school in a one room eight grade rural school without power or indoor water or bathroom. Carolyn entered the first grade. Her father worked for the forest service and after two years to family moved the Island Park, Idaho where her mother taught school in a two room eight grade school with two teachers at Mack’s Inn. After one year, the family moved to Terreton, Idaho where her father farmed for a year and the family then moved to Wendell Idaho for four years where her mother taught school and Carolyn finished the seventh grade in 1955. Carolyn’s father’s health prevented him from faming thereafter and her mother took over supporting the family by teaching. The family moved to Idaho Falls in1955 where Carolyn graduated from high school in 1960.

After graduation, Carolyn attended a local business school and then worked as a Secretary and Office Manager at the Idaho National Nuclear Site in Arco, Idaho. Her older brother Blaine, who was a Health Science administrator, said Carolyn was the best secretary he ever worked with. Following employment at the Arco site , Carolyn moved the California where she worked for several years. Carolyn and a friend took a vacation trip to Hawaii and after several trips married Homer Coombs Leong on March 29,1969 in the Laie, Hawaii temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Carolyn and Homer were parents of two children, Marcus was born in 1972, and Nicole was born in 1976. Both still reside in Hawaii. Carolyn and Homer later divorced.

Carolyn was a loving, devoted wife, and mother, known for her pleasant personality and her smiling face. She was a wonderful cook, enjoyed making crafts around the house and for the holidays. Carolyn was a faithful member of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, taught and served in the Young Women’s programs. Carolyn was known to be steadfast when everything around her appeared to be falling apart. Carolyn was very respected by her coworkers; she was known to be punctual on time and never missed a sick workday in 27 years.

Carolyn's services will be held on August 1, 2026 at the Wellsville City Cemetery at 1:00 PM.
