Cheryl Love Gee Ray, formerly of Smithfield, Utah, passed away on July 8th, surrounded by her family.
Born on July 18, 1939 in Salt Lake City, Utah, Cheryl was the youngest child and only daughter of Wilfred Walter and Blanche Love Gee.
True to her middle name, Cheryl spent her life loving all those who crossed her path. She was a loving wife and mother, and her children were her greatest joy. She spent her life loving and serving others. She was calm, compassionate, and caring. She will be remembered for her love of learning and the joy she spread by sharing children's books, especially with her grandchildren. She had a gift for expressing love through thoughtful correspondence and remembering special dates. Her cards and letters were beautifully handwritten and treasured by those who received them.
Cheryl married Byron Nevele Ray on March 18, 1960 in the Salt Lake Temple. Over the coming years they would raise 5 children together. She cherished each of her children and grandchildren, and always wanted to know how everyone was and what they were doing. She was a woman of great faith and loved serving in various church callings, especially her time in Primary. Her greatest gift was the capacity to give and express love without expecting anything in return.
Cheryl is survived by her husband, Byron N. Ray; her children Regan (Vanessa), Lisa (Craig) Janes, Cristin (Peter) Drewes, Shauna (James) Ray-Ruff, and Darin (Elisa); 19 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild; and her beloved 99-year-old brother, Raymond Gee - all of whom carry forward her legacy of love.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Howard Lynn Gee and Wilfred Love “Joe” Gee.
A celebration of her life will be held on July 18th, her 87th birthday, at Allen Mortuary of North Logan (420 E 1800 N, North Logan, Utah) at 11:00 a.m. A viewing will be held on Friday the 17th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Allen Mortuary of North Logan, Utah.
Our family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Renew Home Health and Hospice and Legacy Village of Provo, Utah, for their compassionate care of our sweet mother over the past 18 months.
