David Louis Denton, 68, passed away Sunday, March 15, at Maple Springs Skilled Nursing Facility after struggling for many years with health problems related to prostate cancer.

He was born to Louis Lorenzo and Martha Arlene Denton in Memphis, Tennessee, on May 30, 1957. His father passed away when he was four years old, and his mother valiantly raised him and his four older sisters by herself.

He lived through the civil rights issues and bussing for desegregation that made history in Memphis. His school years were marred with riots and unease. It was in high school that he realized his love for radio.

Being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he attended the church’s school Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho, and became known as “Buford.” That nickname stuck and many people now only know him as Buford.

He lived in many places across the country as he sought radio DJ jobs. He owned a radio station in Missouri and hated selling it, but circumstances made it necessary. So, he moved West and met his future wife on his first full day in Utah. He married Teresa in June of 1995 at the Logan Temple.

In 2011, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Due to previous surgeries, he had to treat the cancer with radioactive seeds. Now 14 years later, he began the fight for his life as the radioactive seeds had damaged more than just the prostate. He spent the past year getting infections which went septic, going to the hospital, and rehabbing at the Maple Springs Skilled Nursing Facility. After five cycles in the past year, his body was just too weak to fight one more infection.

He is preceded in death by his parents Louis Lorenzo and Martha Arlene DeHart Denton, three sisters – Bettye Scherer, Edwinna Empie, and Sandra Denton – and Sandra’s twin brother, Sammy, who died in infancy. He is survived by his wife, Teresa Kendrick Denton, and his sister, Judy Denton (Puryear, Tennessee). A special recognition is given to friends who became family – Dave and Shelly Bair and their children Jonathon, Ashlyn, and Morgan.

A viewing will be held at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E Center, Logan, on Monday, March 23, 2026 at 10:30 AM followed by a graveside service at the Logan Cemetery at 12:00 PM.
