David Garrett Miller

July 15, 1953 — November 28, 2025

Logan

David Garrett Miller passed away on November 28, 2025, in Logan, Utah at the age of 72, due to health complications related to stroke and kidney failure. Dave was born on July 15, 1953, in Kokomo, Indiana, the first child of Dale and Marjorie (Spicer) Miller. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and disciple of Jesus Christ, he leaves behind a legacy of faith, resilience, and deep love for his family.

Growing up in Kokomo, Dave’s spirit of adventure was evident from a young age. He loved to share stories of hopping freight trains, racing muscle cars, and competing in demolition derbies. He especially enjoyed Friday night roller skating, where he impressed everyone by skating backward faster than most people could skate forward. As a Boy Scout, he helped organize and run his troop when adult leadership fell through, showing early development of resourcefulness and leadership which would define his life.

At the age of 16, Dave traveled to the western U.S. for the first time to attend the 1969 National Scout Jamboree at Farragut State Park near Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. A highlight was the greeting sent from space by Eagle Scout Neil Armstrong during Apollo 11’s journey to the moon. The jamboree and the venue sparked his love for the Intermountain West. From 1972 to 1974, he served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Montana–Wyoming Mission. where he developed a lasting testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ and a love of service.

Dave graduated from Ricks College (now BYU–Idaho) with a Business Management degree in 1977. It was there that he met his future wife, Carma Kunz. During the 1976 Teton Dam disaster, he opened his student apartment to displaced students and helped with cleanup efforts- another example of his desire to care for and serve others.

Dave and Carma made their home in Farmington, Utah, in 1991, where they raised their four children. Having experienced the absence of his own father at a young age, Dave was deeply committed to being a steady, loving presence in his own family. He fulfilled that promise wholeheartedly throughout his life.

Dave built a successful real estate appraisal business, where he not only valued and supported his employees but also welcomed his children into the work. He invested in his community as well- coaching Little League baseball, leading Boy Scout troops, and teaching his children the importance of hard work, family involvement, and showing up when it mattered most.

One of Dave’s greatest joys was spending time in the outdoors with family. Whether camping in Big Cottonwood and Blacksmith Fork canyons, hiking Donut Falls, or rafting Henry’s Fork of the Snake River, he managed family camping trips and cherished creating meaningful memories. A major highlight for the Miller family was building a second home in Bear Lake, Idaho- a hands-on project involving all of the family. It continues to serve as a beloved gathering place for family and friends, including the 11 grandchildren.

Even after multiple strokes and declining health, Dave continued to engage in family hikes, trips, and adventures- including hiking Kanarraville Falls, as well as exploring Mesa Verde, Arches, and Glacier National Parks with the family.

He is survived by his wife, Carma; their four children, Matthew (Cindy), Derek (Julie), Whit (Kristi) and Heidi (Matt) and 11 grandchildren. He is preceded in death by children Spencer and Stephanie, father Dale, mother Marjorie, sister Kathleen, and brother Robert.

Funeral services will be held on December 6 at 12 noon preceded by a viewing from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Logan Canyon Ward, 325 North Lauralin Drive, Logan, Utah. Interment will follow at the Farmington, Utah, Cemetery.

"Now, concerning the state of the soul between death and the resurrection—Behold, it has been made known unto me by an angel, that the spirits of all men, as soon as they are departed from this mortal body, yea, the spirits of all men, whether they be good or evil, are taken home to that God who gave them life.

“And then shall it come to pass, that the spirits of those who are righteous are received into a state of happiness, which is called paradise, a state of rest, a state of peace, where they shall rest from all their troubles and from all care, and sorrow.
