River Heights

Diane Brockbank Sweeten, age 85, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at her home in River Heights, Utah. Diane was born on March 7, 1940, in Salt Lake City, Utah, the only daughter with five brothers born to Bernard Park Brockbank and Nada Rich Brockbank. They lived in a house on Highland Drive until they built a larger home down the street. Diane enjoyed playing jacks, jumping rope, and having fun with all her friends in the neighborhood.

Diane attended Olympus Jr. High, Olympus High, and graduated from Granite High school in 1958. She attended BYU and enjoyed traveling to many places in the world with her parents. One of her favorite trips was to New Zealand where she was able to be present when the New Zealand temple was dedicated by President David O. McKay.

Diane married Garth Sweeten in the Salt lake Temple. They just celebrated 60 years together. They have seven children: Evan (Candi), Rexburg; Steve, Rexburg; Paula (Robert), Malad; Rod (Holly), Orem; Nada (Larry), Slaterville; Jesse (Judy), Kaysville; Jared (Alycia), Syracuse. Diane and Garth love being grandparents to 28 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren. They never miss a birthday. Each member of the family looks forward to a card and a little cash in their mailbox from Grandma and Grandpa.

Diane was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She had a steady faith that helped her serve in many Church callings throughout her life. She spent many years in primary. She loved the children and especially the primary songs.

Diane’s cookies and banana bread are famous among family and friends. Diane was a talented seamstress, making many of her daughters’ clothing when they were little and lots of baby doll clothes. Later in life, she and Garth looked forward to their weekly card playing group. They also loved their time serving as Guest Services Missionaries at Temple Square in Salt Lake for 2 years and for 15 years two days a week as ordinance workers in the Logan temple.
