Donna May Gittins

November 29, 1941 — February 25, 2026

Mendon

Donna May Gittins, 84, of Logan, Utah returned to her loving Heavenly Father on February 25, 2026, after many years of health complications. Donna was born November 29, 1941 in Juneau, Alaska, to Kermit and Oneita McMurchy. They later moved to Corvallis, Oregon.

Donna met Ray Eugene Gittins while working as a waitress in a diner. They were married on June 29, 1974 in Dallas, Oregon. Towards the first part of 1976, they welcomed a daughter, Bonita, to their family. At the end of the following year, they welcomed a son, Daniel, to the family. They raised their family in Portland, Oregon until 1991, when they moved to Hyrum, Utah. Donna provided childcare services in Portland so she could stay home to raise her children. When she moved to Logan, she worked for ItFitz, as a seamstress sewing various types of bags for dutch oven and camp chef storage bags. In 2006, Donna had a series of strokes which left her partially disabled. Although this was life changing for her, she took on the challenge daily with a smile and great attitude.

Donna was a convert to the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and had a strong testimony of her Savior Jesus Christ and was very dedicated to taking her children to church and attending the temple as often as she could. She loved doing genealogy work and tried to do as much work for her family that were not members as she could. This was very important to her.

After Ray passed away on September 8, 2021, Donna needed assistance with daily tasks. She was able to be a resident of Terrace Grove Assisted Living center for over four years. She passed the days by sewing quilts for humanitarian projects, attending daily activities offered and visiting with her friends that would stop in to see her. She made many friends during her time there and was always well taken care of and loved. Her family is very appreciative of the great nursing staff, residents and friends that took care of Donna, when she would let them. She was very independent and always concerned that she was bothering someone to help her.

Donna is survived by her children, Bonita Kay Hugo and Daniel Ray Gittins (Brandi), along with seven grandchildren (one currently serving a mission in Eugene, Oregon), and 1 great grandson and her sister Delores Johnson.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Ray Eugene Gittins, her parents Kermit and Oneita McMurchy and her brother Jack McMurchy
