Gail Nystrom Hendricks Jemmett passed away on March 17, 2025 at the age of 81. She was placed on hospice in August, 2024, due to declining health the last few years.
Gail Nystrom was born on May 22, 1943 in Bonners Ferry, Idaho. She arrived with a full head of hair and the gift of gab. She is the fourth child of Art and Lillian Nystrom. Gail was raised alongside her siblings Marilyn, Donny, Carol and Kenny and she enjoyed every opportunity she had, to spend time with her extended family.
When Gail was learning to walk her mother noticed she dragged one leg. Her parents learned that her hip had not formed correctly, so she was treated at the (previously called) Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children in Spokane, Washington. She lived there from age one and a half until two and a half while she healed up from two hip surgeries, spending most of that time in traction.
Gail attended Naples Grade School and Bonners Ferry High School. After high school graduation, Gail became the first Miss Bonners Ferry and participated in the Miss Idaho Pageant that year.
Gail graduated from the University of Idaho, in Moscow, Idaho, with a Home Economics degree. She met her husband, Haven Hendricks, in a student ward church congregation there and they were married in the Idaho Falls Temple in 1965.
Gail and Haven lived in Moscow, ID, Anaheim, CA, Idaho Falls, ID, West Lafayette, IN, Hastings, NE, and then moved to, and finally settled permanently in, Providence, UT, in 1977.
Gail and Haven have six children. Russ (Lisa), Holly (Hal) Fronk, Kendall (Kim), Todd (Kim), Scott (Ondelyn Collie) and Brett Hendricks.
Gail always loved music, and sang in the church choir as soon as she was old enough, first in the Lutheran church and later in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She loved going to movies and plays, and she especially enjoyed participating in church and community musicals and made many lifelong friends as a result. Traveling was also a joy for Gail, especially her trips to London, Italy and New York City.
Gail worked for Keepsake Kottage for many years. She enjoyed the creative outlet it gave her and the many friendships she made there.
After Haven passed away Gail was reunited with her college friend, Coy Jemmett. They were married in 2021 and lived in Grangeville, Idaho. Coy passed away in 2023 and Gail moved back to Providence around that time.
Gail is survived by her six children, 15 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers, Don Nystrom and Ken Nystrom.
She was preceded in death by both husbands, a grandson, her sisters and brothers-in-law Marilyn (Andy) Anderson and Carol (Tom) Pickerel, brother George Nystrom, sister-in-law Donna Nystrom and her parents, Arthur and Lillian Nystrom.
The family would like to thank everyone who helped in Gail’s care, especially Enhabit Hospice and the staff at Cache Valley Assisted Living.
