Gary Burt

Gary John Burt, age 55, passed away in the early morning hours of Saturday, December 3, 2011 following complications from a cardiac arrest a week prior.
He was born on September 12, 1956 to wonderful, loving parents, John and Merle Burt in salt Lake City, Utah. He had only one brother, Jeff, who he considered a great friend.
Gary often spoke of his great childhood and how much his parents loved him. His mother often told us he was perfect which we questioned at times. He spent many hours fishing, hunting, and golfing with his father, brother, and cousin, Craig Thompson. He grew up playing baseball where he was the pitcher and his brother was catcher-the Burt brothers in action. He also earned the rank of Eagle Scout or as he would say his Dad earned two Eagles, his and his brothers. He graduated from Viewmont Hgh in 1974. He then attended Weber State University and Utah State University where he met and married Susan Egan Asay. They were blessed with one son, Christopher Gary Burt. They later divorced.
Gary had many great friends throughout his life. One of these introduced him to his forever love, leslie Ann Astle, who he married in the Salt lake City Temple on June 6, 1985-26 years just wasn't enough. They were also blessed with three amazing children-Carli Ann, Spencer John, and Daniel Shaw. Family means everything to Gary. His greatest joy came from spending time with them. He loved them dearly. Most recently he has loved being a grandpa. He has four grandchildren-Carson, Lilliana, Landon, Giuliana and one more on the way. They are the light of his life. Always remember that Grandpa Gary loves you!
Gary and Leslie moved to Cache Valley in 1989. He worked for ICON Health and Fitness where he had previously been their first employee. He is an active member of the LDS church where he has served the Lord in many callings such as Scout master, Sunday school teacher, Ward executive secretary, Stake executive secretary, Elders quorum president, USU 18th Ward Bishopric counselor, Young Men's Counselor & advisor, but he never held his dream calling which was working with the children in the Nursery.

Gary’s favorite place on earth was Henry’s Lake, Idaho. Spending time there with family was his version of heaven on earth. When home, he loved being out and active with the boys throwing the ball, coaching, or just watching as they participated on various sports teams. Healso loved golfing with his boys. He was a marshal at Birchcreek Golf Course. Gary had a heart of gold and loved it best when he was behind the scenes helping others.

He was preceded in death , only by his grandparents, Joseph and Daisy Burt, and Errol and Eulalia Widmeyer.

He is survived by his parents, John and Merle of Bountiful, and his brother, Jeff and niece and nephew of Salt Lake City. He is also survived by his wife, Leslie Ann, and his children, Christopher )Giannina( of Syracuse, Carli )Tyler "Bo"( of Salt Lake, Spencer, who is serving in Leeds England, Daniel, who is still at home, and his four precious grandchildren.
