Gary Lynn Hymas 87, passed away surrounded by his loving children in North Logan, Utah on April 28, 2026. Gary was born on October 11,1938, in Preston, Idaho. He was the son of Ernest George and Delca Handy Hymas. Gary was raised by his loving parents in Logan, Utah.

Gary enjoyed camping and playing sports with his friends and his brothers during his youth. In his teenage years he spent time working at a tire shop and at the Bluebird Cafe. Gary also worked at many of the family businesses including the Cactus Club.

Gary attended Logan schools and graduated from Logan High School. He met and then married his high school sweetheart, Hope Herd Hymas on August 2, 1957 in Logan, Utah. They were later sealed in the Ogden, Utah LDS Temple. Shortly after getting married, they moved to California to work and it is there that they started their family. Their first child Shelly, was born in California. After a short time, they returned to Logan and welcomed Allen, Lisa and Kim to complete their family. Hope and Gary made their home in Logan, next to his parents Delca and Ernest Hymas and had many wonderful family memories and experiences throughout their lives. Hope and Gary’s sweet 66 years of marriage and devotion to one another has been an example to many.

Gary and Hope owned and operated the R&G Drive Inn in Smithfield, Utah for 30 years. Everyone at the Drive Inn adored them. Gary and Hope were a great team together with just the right amount of sugar and spice. He loved his R&G family. Gary also worked and dedicated 37 years at Thiokol Aero Space as a Major Subcontract Administrator.

Hope and Gary loved the holidays!!! They made them special and always a big hit with everyone. The holidays hold lasting traditions and memories that Gary and Hope started, and their children and grandchildren still celebrate today.

Gary loved sports, he would spend hours in the backyard playing football and basketball with the children, grandchildren and the neighborhood children. With the help of some of his friends, he founded the Logan Little League Football program. He also served as President of the Smithfield Jaycees and during this time they helped establish the Smithfield Little League Football program as well. He also coached in the for several years, including coaching his son, nephews, and grandsons. Gary was a big Utah State Aggie, Logan Grizzlies, and Skyline Eagles fan. He loved to support and attend his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events and attended many dance recitals and activities over the years. Gary loved to play golf with his brothers, do sudoku, play cards, and puzzle. He also loved to watch old westerns, game shows, Fox News, and sports. He was also known for his $1 bets on just about anything, and of course he always won.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He loved his calling as a ward clerk where he served for many years. Gary was always very organized and accurate in his accounting skills. He loved his family and was very proud of their many accomplishments and made them all feel special and loved. He was affectionately called “Duffus” by his many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Gary is survived by his loving children, Allen Hymas (Laurie), Lisa Lundahl (Jeff) Kim Bertagnolli (Joel Stahn), 16 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren with one on the way and 1 great-great grandson. His sisters-in-law, Marge (Richard) Hymas, Beth (Keith) Hymas, Marsha (Ron) Hymas and many nieces and nephews. 

Gary was preceded in death by his loving wife, Hope, daughter Shelly Lynn Klomp, great-granddaughter, Chloe Coop, his parents Ernest and Delca Hymas, his in-laws Kermit and Elsie Herd. His brothers Richard, Keith and Ron Hymas; and his sister Marlene’ and brother- in-law Eldon (Stu) Jensen.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, May 16, at 12 noon at Allen-Hall Mortuary in Logan, Utah. A viewing will be held the at Allen-Hall Mortuary 34 E. Center Street from 10:30 to 11:30 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Logan City Cemetery.

Gary served in the National Guard and will be buried with full military honors. Services under the direction of Allen-Hall Mortuary. The family wishes to thank all of the angels in Gary’s life and the amazing staff at Maple Springs and the hospice team.
