Gaylen William Jensen

August 30, 1928 — September 5, 2025

Hyrum

Gaylen William Jensen, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on September 5, 2025, in North Logan, Utah, surrounded by his adoring family. He was 97 years old.

Gaylen was born on August 30, 1928, in Hyrum, Utah, to Alice and Victor Jensen. The youngest of six children, he grew up on the family farm where he developed a lifelong love of farming and caring for the land.

He graduated from South Cache High School and soon after served in the U.S. Army during the Occupation of Japan at the end of World War II. Following his military service, Gaylen attended Utah State University, where he majored in agronomy and minored in education and military science. He went on to earn his master’s degree in education.

Gaylen began his teaching career in Idaho before returning to Utah to teach at the Intermountain Indian School, where he dedicated 28 years to educating and mentoring young people. After retiring from teaching, he returned to his first love, working the farm, and also took care of the family’s rental properties.

On October 5, 1950, Gaylen married the love of his life, Arlene, in the Logan LDS Temple. From that day forward, they were inseparable. Their marriage of nearly 70 years was a true example of love, devotion, and partnership. They did everything together, and their bond was admired by everyone who knew them. For over 20 years, Gaylen and Arlene spent winters in Arizona, where they cherished friendships and warm weather. In Arlene’s later years, Gaylen lovingly cared for her with tenderness and unwavering devotion.

Gaylen’s love for the land never faded. He delighted in farming, working with animals, and spending time at the family cabin at Bear Lake. He rarely missed a Utah Jazz game and had a special way of making every family gathering memorable.

Gaylen was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served faithfully in many callings, including teaching Sunday School, serving as Sunday School President, working as a finance clerk, and helping with temple security.

Above all, Gaylen’s greatest joy was his family. He was patient, kind, selfless, and strong. As a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, he offered endless love, encouragement, and guidance. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren knew that a visit to Grandpa’s house meant being loved, spoiled, and sent home with a treat. He taught his family the values of hard work, honesty, service, and kindness-lessons that will live on for generations.

Gaylen is survived by his children: Gayle Hansen (Dale), Mark Jensen, Wayne Jensen, and Judy Jones (Shane); 14 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. He is also survived by Arlene’s siblings and in-laws, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Arlene, who passed away in 2020 and whom he missed every single day. He was also preceded in death by his parents, all of his siblings and their spouses, and two of Arlene’s sisters and their spouses.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 13, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at the church located at 125 N. 400 W, Hyrum, Utah. A viewing will be held at the same location from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. prior to the service. He will be laid to rest at the Hyrum City Cemetery.
