Gloria Viola Tripp Green graduated from this life and passed through the veil from natural causes at Spring Gardens in Mapleton, Utah on September 18, 2024, after a long and fruitful life. She was born of goodly parents, Ernest Lyman Tripp and Alice Leola Tripp, in Richmond, Utah on March 7, 1933.
Gloria lived on the family farm in Arkansas, Idaho which was part of the Tripp homestead until she was seven years old. She lived there with her parents and two brothers, Robert Dell Tripp and Ernest Lynn Tripp all of whom preceded her in death. In Arkansas, they had no plumbing nor electricity, but they had a well with a rope and bucket attached to it. They retrieved their water from the well with a bucket. If the well ran dry, they would go across the dirt road and get water from the ditch.
In 1940, they moved to the Tripp homestead in Richmond, Utah. Gloria spent the summers working on the farm with her brothers. They lived in a small home in Richmond again with no indoor plumbing nor electricity. They had a well with a small pump. They warmed the house and cooked on a wood/coal burning stove. They lit the house with candles or lanterns. Plumbing and electricity were added to the house when Gloria was eighteen years old, her senior year in high school. That was the first time she was able to take a bath in a real bathtub with running water. Up until that time, they had to warm the water on the stove for their baths. Gloria always took and enjoyed baths until she moved to Spring Gardens.
Gloria attended school at Park School through the 8th grade and then attended North Cache High School, both in Richmond. She graduated from high school in 1951. Shortly after graduation she went with her uncle Ivan Tripp to live in California. She was only going to be gone for the summer but ended up getting a job at a donut shop. That is where she met her husband, Robert James Green. They were married on May 30, 1953. Their first and only child, David Robert Green was born on November 19, 1954, in Logan, Utah. About two years after his birth, they discovered that David was deaf. Gloria spent many years traveling through California advocating for the deaf. David passed away on December 21, 2015, and Bob passed away May 27, 2019.
Bob and Gloria had happy and fulfilling lives living in Lakewood, California for their entire married lives. Their lives were filled with joy and happiness. They made many friends there. Gloria enjoyed her flower gardens and citrus trees. She loved Roses. She inherited her love for flowers from her mother. She enjoyed working at JC Penney in the bridal department. Gloria took up bowling and participated in bowling leagues with Bob and with her son, David, for most of her adult life until her late eighties when her back would not permit her to continue. She still enjoyed supporting her friends who bowled.
Gloria enjoyed going on cruises to many parts of the world. Bob and Gloria celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary on one of their many cruises. They were accompanied by fifty friends.
Gloria will be missed by her friends, her surviving sister-in-law Mary Ellen Tripp, her nieces and nephews, Robert LeuDell Tripp (Marie), Ernest Rand Tripp (Lillian), Valerie Ann Nelson (Jeff), Pamela Sue Kidd (Brad), Ronald Tripp (Barbara) and Robby Tripp (Julia).
Graveside services will be held at the Richmond, Utah cemetery on Friday, October 4, at noon conducted by Bishop Steve Jorgensen of the City Creek Ward.
The family would like to thank those at Spring Gardens who cared for Gloria and for the hospice services provided.
