Grant Samuel Kent, 94, departed this life peacefully on April 15, 2026, at Birch Creek Assisted Living in Smithfield, Utah.
Born March 3, 1932 to Wesley Sidney Kent and Mabel Margaret (Neilsen) Kent in Malad, Idaho. Grant was the sixth of eight children. He spent his childhood in Dairy Creek, Idaho in the summer and Arimo, Idaho in the winter. While he lived there, he graduated from Marsh Valley High School, where he was the captain of the football team and student body president. After graduation, Grant served in the United States Army as a paratrooper for two years. Afterward, he attended Utah State University and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in business.
While Grant was working for JC Penney in Idaho Falls, he attended at dance in Rexburg, where he met his future wife, Arveda Lauritzen. They were married on July 23, 1959, in the Idaho Falls Temple, and they raised three daughters. Grant’s work for JC Penney in a managerial position took them to Ogden, Utah; Pocatello, Idaho; Roosevelt, Utah; and Wolf Point, Montana; retiring to Island Park, Idaho, where they lived for about thirty years.
Grant always wanted to go and do. On Sunday, he loved to go on drives to find where the road went. When he found a nice spot, he would stop and walk up whatever hill was there. He would also snowmobile, ride his bike, float down the river, go fishing and camping, and get wood every summer for the cabin.
His hands were never idle. He spent hours working in his garden and even arranged flowers for weddings. He loved to make candy at Christmas and did many latch hooks.
Grant served in many callings as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Additionally, he and Arveda worked in the Rexburg Temple for eleven years.
He is survived by their three children: Trena (Craig) Adams, Allyson (Brent) Sandberg, and Gaylene (Shawn) Lamb. He is also survived by many grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Arveda, his parents Wesley and Mabel Kent, and his seven siblings.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 20, 2026, at 11:00 AM in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 480 North 100 West, Hyde Park, Utah. A viewing will be held before the funeral service on Monday, April 20, 2026, 9:00-10:30 AM. Interment will be in the Hyde Park, Utah cemetery.
