Harold Sidney Stock passed peacefully from this life on June 2, 2026.
He was a giant among men. His large stature and stern demeanor intimidated some (including his grandchildren), but his tender heart, desire to serve others, and willingness to share his faith in Jesus Christ made him loved by many and remembered by all.
Dad lived a life of service. As a young man, he served in the Eastern Canada mission. Upon his return, he enrolled in the ROTC program at Utah State University where he met Mary Beth Knowles in Math class. They were married September of 1960. After graduation he went on to a distinguished military career in the U.S. Air Force. As a Civil Engineer, the Lord used his assignments to build the kingdom as he built chapels in Vietnam, Germany, and Wyoming. He literally bore his testimony of the gospel in the nations of the world. Throughout his life he served faithfully in many callings including as Bishop, Stake President and Nursery Leader. After retirement, he and Mary Beth continued their service including missions to New York and Korea. One of his favorite callings was as a sealer in the Korea and Logan temples. However, his greatest service was to his family.
Dad worked hard to provide for his family so that each of his eight children could grow and discover their own talents, abilities, and passions. He wanted us to be independent and find our own paths, but he always allowed us to come home and regroup when we needed to.
Dad was always at ease talking to anyone, it seemed that any person in the grocery store or on the beach in Bear Lake was just a friend he hadn’t met yet. He never rested much during his time on earth. He was always busy doing something, even to the very end. Now that he has been reunited with his sweetheart, we are sure that the work will continue to move forward.
