Howard Max Baker

October 4, 1935 — March 25, 2023

Howard Max Baker, loving husband, father and grandfather passed away on March 25, 2023 in Logan, Utah, surrounded by his family. Always the gentleman, he waited for his beloved wife Carolyn to cross the threshold of wonder first, a little over four months earlier. That’s the longest these two have ever been apart.

Max was born at home in Mendon, Utah on October 4, 1935 in Mendon, Utah. He was the second child and only son of Howard and Una Mozelle McCombs Baker. He was blessed with two sisters, Joyce and Norma. He married the love of his life, Carolyn Wyatt, from Logan, Utah on October 12, 1956 in the Logan LDS Temple for time and all eternity. They became the devoted parents of four children who were blessed to come into their home.

Dad’s greatest treasure was his family. He loved our mother and treated her like a queen. You rarely saw one of them without the other. Our home was filled with a lot of love. Our dad was so much fun. He was always up for an adventure and kept us laughing. Dad always made time for us and supported us in everything that we did, no matter how busy he was. He adored all of his grandchildren and they adored him!

Max’s outgoing personality and fun sense of humor drew people to him. He was a friend to everyone he met. He was known for his integrity, hard work ethic, and service to others.

Max enjoyed a successful business career. He owned and operated Baker’s Cabinet Shop. He took great pride in his work and was well known for his beautiful cabinets.

Max lived a lifetime of service to his friends, neighbors, Mendon City, and his religion. He served as Mayor of Mendon City, spent time as a city councilman, and was instrumental in getting the Mendon Fire Department established. Max and Carolyn were both very involved with all of the Mendon celebrations throughout the years, especially May Day. Max served in many church callings throughout his life, but he especially enjoyed his calling as Bishop in a university ward, probably because he was a big kid at heart.

Max is survived by his four children, LuAnn Baker, Jenae (Bob) Jepsen, Steve (Lisa) Baker, Kent (Lori) Baker, and 10 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Carolyn, his parents, and his two sisters, Joyce Baker Richards and Norma Baker Myers.

He will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts until we meet again. Love you, Dad!

The family would like to thank Dr. Michael Stones, Terrace Grove and Sunshine Hospice for their kind and compassionate care of our sweet dad.
