Irene Jones Johnson passed away on August 4, 2023 at the age of 89. She was born in Otto, Wyoming to Rulon Dalley Jones and Mildred Sanders Jones on July 13, 1934. She had eight siblings.
She went to school in Greybull, Wyoming, finishing eighth grade. She later got her GED and associate degree from Weber State College in Ogden, Utah.
She married Edward Shumway Johnson in Red Lodge, Montana on September 30, 1949. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple the following year.
She was the mother of nine children: Stephen (Robbalee) Johnson, Layton, Utah; Vivian Johnson (deceased); Leslie Johnson, Hyrum, Utah; Lillian (Rand) Tripp, Richmond, Utah; Evelyn (Richard) Nelson, Terreton, Idaho; Lori (Moises) Fajardo, Logan, Utah; Colleen Hamblin, Hyrum, Utah; Robert Johnson, Preston, Idaho; Phillip (Kammy) Johnson, Richmond, Utah. She has 25 grandchildren and 56 great-grandchildren with one on the way.
She worked at the US Forest Service in Ogden, Utah and in Student Services at Utah State University in Logan, Utah. She retired from Utah State University in 1997. She drove a delivery route for Logan Regional Hospital for eight years after she retired.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one daughter, a great-grandson, her parents, six siblings and various in-laws. She is survived by eight of her nine children, her brother Reuben Jones (Santa Maria, California), her sister Joy Shaw and brother-in-law Kenton Shaw (St. George, Utah), and various nieces and nephews.
She was a life-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various organizations. Her children loved to hear her sing the hymns with her beautiful soprano voice.
Grandma, as she was known to many, loved supporting her kids and grandkids in their activities. She was a huge Utah Jazz fan and attended many, many softball games. When she was younger, she loved to go camping. She made sure that everyone knew how to roast a marshmallow over a campfire to a golden brown. Her claim to fame was her skin. She had smooth and beautiful skin that people commented on regularly.

Services will be held at the Richmond 4 th Ward, 150 S 100 E., Richmond, UT at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 12, 2023. A viewing will be held from 9:30 am to 10:45 am before the services.
