The world tragically lost one of its strongest soldiers and brightest lights August 5, 2025. Our life has forever been changed as a piece of us has been lost far too soon.
Jace Tanner Dunn was born at McKay Dee Hospital on June 24, 1996 at 4:45 PM. Jace was born to be a fighter as he came into this world seven weeks early, and spent ten days in the NICU, and that fighting spirit never left him. Jace was always an adventurous child and from a young age was never afraid to be himself. He never let having two sisters deter him and played right along with dolls and humoring them in getting all dressed up, even riding around the neighborhood in a Cinderella dress with bright eyeshadow. He lived fearlessly as he gave his family constant heart attacks as he jumped off roofs into snow and to the trampolines. Multiple broken bones later, it always seemed like he was just built stronger. We won't forget the movie nights, piggy back rides, and night long prank wars with our cousins.
He was his little sister's protector. He was a good sport as he dealt with her constant sass and her putting him in his place, as he dished it right back. They had brawls with each other, but at the end of the day it was just how they showed one another how much they loved each other. Jace would do anything to protect his little sister, even putting himself in harm's way to protect her. Even though sometimes from the outside they were like oil and water, they both loved each other fiercely and only ever wanted to protect and see each other shine. Jace was so proud to see her accomplishments and get to see her become a mom.
Jace was the most incredible uncle and always knew how to find the best gifts, without even trying. We remember the shy shrug and smile when everyone would compliment the great work he did, and he would always say it is nothing. But that is how deep of a soul Jace had, he just knew.
Even though she was older Jace was always one to show up and support his big sister. When the power went out in her home and he face timed to try to help figure out the problem, even offering to fly to Maine. When that was not needed he called and checked in everyday until he knew the problem was fixed. He was the one who the night before her wedding who listened to all of the fears, anxiety, stresses, excitement, and even listening to her vows. Our shared love of lyrics and sitting in his car blasting music, just talking about the world and things we could never answer. He was a protector to the sister that always promised to protect him. I will look up into the sky and think of you.
Jace always protected others and showed up. No matter the events, no matter the time Jace would be there. If there were monsters in the closet, rattle snakes, or the tube was floating down the river Jace was the first to jump in and pull and lead us to safety.
One of the best qualities about Jace was how deeply and passionately he loved and cared. Jace was a true empath and old soul in a young body. From early ages you could tell Jace loved deeper and stronger than most. He was one to cry when the Green Goblin died in Spiderman because even though he was the bad guy "he was a person too, he had feelings too". When he was hit by a car he told the mother to keep on going and he walked home because he saw her three children in the car and it was close to Christmas and "I didn't want to ruin her Christmas". When he found an abandoned dog at a job site, it was no question that he was meant to be a fellow Sparky. Immediately coming home with Jace and becoming his partner in crime. He always put others before himself and his spirit and love can still be felt to all of those who were lucky enough to be loved by him.
Jace found a passion for trade work in doing his electrical work. He always showed pride for his newly organized and color coded electrical boxes. He took these skills to always help others whenever needed. Whether it was preventing a tattoo shop from burning down, crawling through dark attics, or on a military base he was always solving the problems. He loved being a "sparky", so much so that he named his dear dog the same. Through his work he found passion and more family, specifically with the crew at Bassett Electric. Though not blood, he valued each of them as family, specifically boss and "big brother" Chris.
Jace was one of the most creative people and a talented artist. He always could use art to express himself when words escaped. He further expressed that in his love of tattoos, telling the story of his life through the art on his skin.
Jace loved the outdoors and lived by the motto of truly leaving things better than he found them. He found beauty in all of the living things around him and was aware to the things that were bigger than us all. He never let the fear of the unknown stop him, and he took all adventures head on, always the first to do something (no matter how crazy). We know he is still with us because he was connected to all things bigger. We will know you are with us because we will see and feel you in the trees, the whisper of the wind, the strength of the mountains, and the ripples in the water.
Jace will live on through his father Brady Dunn (Brandy), mother Tammy Black (Trevor), sisters Ashleigh (Blair), and Hailey (Brett), nephew Nash, stepsiblings Austin (Gabby), Colby (Sam), Bristol, Brigham, Troy, and Camryn, as well as his beloved dog Sparky. Jace is also remembered by an incredible group of friends, family, and community who will continue to carry on his spirit.
To know and love Jace was a privilege that those close to him will never forget. His love and loyalty was unwavering, he truly showed up for those around him. No matter the time or place, Jace would be there. He was a gentleman and a 2 AM kind of friend. He was a light in the darkness, with a soul and heart that was too big for this world. We always knew you were destined for something big, but sadly that journey and destiny has taken you away from us.
Our family wants to thank all of those who have reached out with kind words and prayers, offered help, sent photos, and beyond that just loved Jace. In lieu of flowers we are asking people to donate to our Go Fund Me that will be used to help cover costs of a Celebration of Life for Jace.
