James Leroy Casteel

Our dear, sweet James Leroy Casteel passed away peacefully at Logan Regional Hospital on September 19, 2026 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Jim was born February 11, 1965 to Stanton and Virginia Casteel. He was the 5th of 6 children.

Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, and everything that was related to the outdoors. He was a man who found his his greatest peace in the quiet of the woods and the stillness of the water. Whether he was tracking game at sunrise, waiting for a bite on a calm lake, or simply sitting by a campfire under the stars. The wilderness is where he felt most at home. Jim carried a deep respect for nature, a passion for adventure and a generous spirit that he shared with everyone who knew him.

He loved his family with his whole heart.

Jim is survived by his sisters Kathy (Richard) Clayton, Christine (Robert) Wilson, Carolyn Casteel, and a sister in law Christy (Steven) Casteel, his children Doug Saunders, Tasha Greenhalgh, J.J. and Jonathan Maughan, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins that love him dearly.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents Stanton and Virginia Casteel, his brother Steven, his sister Debra and her husband Chris Larsen, his brother in law Robert Wilson, and his grandparents that loved him dearly.

The family wishes to thank all the doctors and nurses at Logan Regional Hospital, the amazing staff at the Cancer Center, and the very compassionate staff at the dialysis center. The love and kindness they showd our dear brother will never be forgotten.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 25, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E Center, Logan, with a viewing held prior to the service from 9:00-10:30 AM.
