James Reed Quinn

James Quinn was born on March 30, 1943 in Ogden, Utah to parents Robert Nelson Quinn and Ethel Mae Larsen Quinn. He had an older brother Michael and a younger sister Ann. He lived in Logan, Utah for a few years during elementary school and then the family moved to Southern California where he finished growing up in the San Fernando Valley, a suburb of Los Angeles. 

Jim attended Birmingham High School, Cal State Northridge for College, and UCLA for a PhD in nuclear physics. He worked for a defense company in southern California briefly then moved to the San Francisco area where he worked for Lockheed and then Syntex. At Syntex, he was working on developing a CT scanner for the heart when he hired Jim Stanley to assist the team. J. Stanley introduced him to his sister Hope Althea Stanley and James and Hope were married in 1979. They had three children, Allison, Michael, and Christine. James left CT work and moved into work with ultrasound instrumentation for checking the integrity of commercial nuclear reactors and also those on air craft carriers and submarines. The family left the Bay Area in 1994 for upstate NY. He retired at the age of 63 and moved to the Pacific Northwest. 

James was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Michael Robert Quinn, his sister Ethel Ann Quinn, and his daughter Allison Althea Quinn. James is survived by his wife Hope Stanley Quinn, his son Michael Ross Quinn, and his daughter Christine Elizabeth Quinn. James died in Vancouver, WA at the age of 80 from Parkinson’s Disease and dementia. 

A gathering of relatives will be held at Allen-Hall Mortuary on Friday, February 16 at 11 am for a Celebration of Life. He will be buried in the family plot in Logan Cemetery on Tuesday, February 20, 2024.
