Janet Rosella Harmon Alderman passed peacefully from this life, surrounded by her family, January 31, 2026. Janet was born October 18, 1939, in Preston, Idaho, to John Willis Harmon and Beth Jensen.

Janet’s early years were spent in several small towns in Northern Utah. She was the oldest of six children born to John and Beth. As a young teen, she moved to Preston, Idaho, to live with her grandmother while her grandfather served an LDS mission in Denmark. She graduated from Preston High School at the age of 16. She attended LDS Business College in Salt Lake City and, after graduating, went to work for the Salt Lake Hardware Company. It was there she met the love of her life, Reed Alderman. They were married in August 1958, in Elko, Nevada, and spent the next 63 years together. They purchased their first home in Granger, Utah (West Valley City), and started raising their family.

They had 5 children: Kathy (David) Meincke, Phoenix, Arizona; Diana (Brian) Proffit, Houston, Texas; Alan (Andrea) Alderman, North Logan, Utah; Trina (Bill) Shelton, North Logan, Utah; Nanette Alderman, Draper, Utah.

In 1971 they moved their family to Logan, Utah. Janet went to work at Utah State University shortly thereafter, where she worked until retiring in 1999. In 2004 they returned to West Valley City to be closer to family.

A member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Janet served faithfully in many callings. She and Reed enjoyed traveling, and her refrigerator is adorned with magnets from the many places that she visited. Her favorite places were Wolf Haven International in Tenino, Washington, or anywhere her children, grandchildren, or great-grandchildren lived. She loved animals, especially dogs, and her “adopted” wolves at Wolf Haven.

She is survived by her five children and their spouses, nine grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by four of her five siblings: John Harmon, Paul (Shauna) Harmon, Paulette (Jack) Lomento, David (Wendy) Harmon. She was preceded in death by her husband, Reed, her parents, a grandson, Jeffrey Meincke, and a brother, Larry (Patsy) Harmon.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 5, 2026, at Allen Mortuary, 420 East 1800 North, North Logan, Utah. A viewing will be held prior to the service from 10:30 a.m. to 10:55 a.m. with a graveside service at the Logan Cemetery immediately following the funeral.
