He lived in Pocatello Idaho and earned his certificate in culinary arts from Idaho State University. He also attended Utah State University and BYU-Pathway.

He returned to Pocatello after his mission, and met his wife, Amy, through an ad in the newspaper. They were married on August 5, 1995, in the Logan Utah Temple. Together they lived in Logan Utah, American Fork Utah, and Orem Utah. He loved learning new things, and the History and Discovery channel were his favorites. Jared loved comedy, the color red, dad jokes, Asian and Mexican food, and cats and dogs.
