Jenneene Smith

February 27, 1938 — December 28, 2025

Logan

Effie Jenneene Eby Smith, age 87, passed away peacefully in her home in the early morning of December 28, 2025

Jenneene was born on February 27, 1938, in Long Beach, California, to Anoch and Melvina Eby. She spent her youth in Southern California, primarily in Lomita, where she developed a lifelong love for animals and the outdoors. In her younger years, she often rode her horse throughout rural Los Angeles county, accompanied by her loyal Great Dane, Sir Randolph of Torrance (Randy).

Seeking to further her education and explore her creative talents, she moved to Logan to attend Utah State University, where she studied Fine Art.

It was in the Cache Valley area that she met her future husband, Sidney Percy Smith. The two were united in marriage on May 19, 1956, in Franklin, Idaho. They were sealed together with their first four children on August 3, 1965 in the Logan temple. Over their 69-year marriage, they built a rich life with their large family.

An artist at heart, Jenneene expressed her creativity in many ways such as her immaculate handwriting, helping her children with projects, sewing, cooking, and gardening. She had an eye for beauty and was an avid collector of many items, finding comfort, value, and history in the things she gathered.

Jenneene found great joy in motherhood, sacrificing much to support her children. She used her artistic talents to help with school and scouting assignments. She worked at home sewing to support her sons on church missions. She made wedding dresses and wedding cakes for some of her children's weddings.

She also passed her zest for life and love of the outdoors to her children with fun summer excursions near and far over the years. Her children fondly recall camping at Lynn, Utah, visiting Craters of the Moon, trips to California to visit her parents, and local activities as well.

She was a woman of faith and an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Throughout her life, she served with a willing heart in numerous callings, touching many lives with her service. She taught her children the gospel of Jesus Christ through word and deed.

In addition to sewing, she later worked as the office manager of The Hearing Zone, an audiology office, and trained in the nursing program at Bridgerland Technical College, receiving her CNA certificate.

Jenneene is survived by:

* Her husband, Sidney Percy Smith.

* Her children: Gene, Dale (Margaret), Alan (Teresa), Cheryl Phillips, Janell (Blaine) Jarman, Kent (Chandra), Todd (Amber), Karen (Antonio) Torres, and Mark (Heather).
