Jessica Ann Hurst

Jessica “Jessie” Ann Hurst, age 38, passed away on July 30th, 2026 in Katy, Texas. She was born on July 5th, 1988 in Ogden Utah to Lori Peterson Hurst and Gary Lasson Hurst. She arrived early and spent her first 2 months of life in ICUs in Ogden and Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City.

Jessie and her family moved to Texas a few months later where she underwent corrective surgery for cranial stenosis and open heart surgery to repair an opening between her ventricles. Jessie was physically and mentally handicapped from birth and functioned on a 3-year-old level as an adult.

Jessie attended Sugar Mill Elementary, Sugarland Middle School, and spent time in high schools in Oslo, Norway, and Richmond, Texas, before proudly graduating from Lamar High School in 2009. At every single stop, Jessie had a magical way of creating a second family; teachers, aides, and staff fell deeply in love with her sweet spirit and helped her reach every milestone possible.

Though Jessie experienced the world differently than most, she lived with a childlike wonder that brightened every room she entered. She loved unconditionally and delighted in life’s simple pleasures … big hugs, sweet animals, swimming, and everything Disney Princesses (treasuring Ariel and The Little Mermaid above all else). Jessie loved to sing with her whole heart, even if not always on key, and cherished her time in the Sugar Land Middle school choir, as well as competing in Special Olympics track events at Travis High School.

In 2008, Jessie took a proud step towards her independence, living first at the Richmond State Supported Living Center and then settling into her group home, where she spent the last 16 years thriving in a community of care. The family extends their deepest, most heartfelt gratitude to her longtime caregivers at Gevil Services for their unwavering love, devotion, and daily kindness to Jessica over the years.

Jessie experienced a seizure on July 26th, 2026 and ended up intubated in the ICU on life support. She passed peacefully from this world into the next on July 30th, 2026 surrounded by her parents.

Jessie is preceded in death by her sister Rachael Hurst and mother Lori Hurst. She is survived by her father, Gary Hurst, stepmother Bonnie Hurst, brother Ryan (Kate) Lofaso-Hurst, stepsister Justine (Kennedy) Burris and stepbrother Brandon (Kaylee) Burris.

Her funeral services will held on Saturday August 8th, at 11 am at Allen Mortuary of North Logan (420 E 1800 N), Utah. She will be buried next to her mother, Lori, in the Logan Cemetery.
