Joan Lungman Shepherd

April 26, 1940 — January 15, 2023

Joan Lungman Shepherd, 82, returned to our Father in Heaven on January 15, 2023. She was born April 26, 1940 in the Budge Memorial Hospital in Logan, Utah. She was the second child born to Clifford A. and Phyllis H. Lungman. Her older sister, Gloria Dawn Lungman, was killed in an accident at a young age. Joan has one brother, Rick Lungman, and two sisters, Lynda Davis and Connie Reeve. The Lungman family moved to Ogden for five years because of her father’s work. They then moved back to Logan when she was ready to attend school. She has lived within half a city block from her family home her entire life.

Joan attended Adams Elementary School, Logan Junior High School, and graduated from Logan High School in 1958. She was employed as a secretary for the American Guernsey Cattle Club for a couple of years. She also worked for Gessel Lungman Electric, a company partly owned by her father.

She met Wendell Shepherd at an Institute Dance in the spring of 1961. After dating for a few months, they were married and sealed in the Logan Temple on June 22, 1962. They raised two daughters, Pam Shepherd Huff and Natalee Shepherd Fenton. She loved her ten grandchildren, as they brought her a great deal of happiness.

Joan held several callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She was a secretary, and then a counselor, in the Young Women’s. She also served as both a teacher and pianist in the Primary, a secretary in both Sunday School and Relief Society, and a Relief Society chorister, which was her favorite calling. She worked in the Logan Temple, assisting the new Brides as they arrived to be married.
In June of 2022 Joan and Wendell celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

The family would like to express their thanks to Intermountain Hospice for their love and support for the last six months. They made Joan’s last few months an easier transition. We are especially grateful for Natalya and Christy, who took exceptional care of her and loved her.

Joan leaves behind her wonderful husband: Wendell Hugh Shepherd, her two daughters, Pam (Michael) Huff and Natalee (David) Fenton; ten grandchildren: Tyler, Alec, Emilee, Matthew, Kaylee, Sean, Brinlee, Alyssa, Tanner and Cesilee: one great grandchild, Liam, and one more coming in May. She leaves behind family and friends who she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Phyllis Lungman and sister, Gloria.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 21, 2023 at 12:00 pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints building located at 792 North 500 East, Logan, UT, with a viewing beforehand from 10:00-11:30 am. Interment will be at the Logan City Cemetery.
