Jolene Wangsgard

May 8, 1939 — August 11, 2025

North Logan

Jolene Shupe Wangsgard, 86, beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and faithful servant of the Lord, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on August 11, 2025 in North Logan, Utah.

Born on May 8, 1939, in Ogden, Utah, Jolene was the daughter of Lawrence Brigham Shupe and Delores Martha Shupe (Ellis). She grew up alongside her older sister Nona Lou Shupe (Grondel), and her older brother, Lamont Ellis Shupe.

Jolene attended school in Ogden and graduated from Ogden High School in 1957. Following high school, she worked at the Bon Marché department store. It was during a church stake play that she first met Gary Ray Wangsgard. Their paths crossed again at an institute dance, where their courtship began. She patiently waited two years while Gary served in the Southern States Mission while they faithfully exchanged weekly letters. They were then married on September 14, 1961, in the Salt Lake Temple.

The couple began their life together in Logan, Utah, where Jolene worked as a bookkeeper for First Security Bank while Gary attended college. They were later blessed with five children: Jeff, Gaylene, Jana, Guy, and Jon.

Jolene’s life was one of service, faith, and love. A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served in many callings, including Primary, Relief Society, and Young Women’s. She also served in the Logan Temple for many years beginning in 2001 and later with her husband on two temple missions—one in Nauvoo, Illinois (2006–2007), and another in Washington, D.C. (2011–2012).

Her life’s journey took her to many places, including Ogden, Logan, Tremonton, Tonga, Orem, Deweyville, Lewiston (Idaho), Spokane (Washington), Hayward (California), and Longmont (Colorado). Along the way, she collected more than just memories—she gathered “souvenirs” in the form of her children, with one even arriving while the family lived in Tonga. She enjoyed traveling, whether cruising, driving across the country, or visiting her grandchildren. They enjoyed their retirement years in North Logan, most recently at Pioneer Valley Lodge.

Jolene was a woman of remarkable talents. Her many homemaking skills were a true reflection of her love and dedication to her family. She was an accomplished seamstress and quilter. She crocheted more than 80 afghans over her lifetime, gifting them with love to generations of family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Gary Ray Wangsgard; her brother, Lamont Shupe; her children Jeff Wangsgard (Julia Cowley) of North Logan, Utah; Gaylene Bruneel (Frank) of Moses Lake, Washington; Jana Blaylock (Kenneth) of Spanish Fork, Utah; Guy Wangsgard (Melissa Jenkins) of Ammon, Idaho; and Jon Wangsgard of Portland, Oregon; 24 grandchildren; and 39 great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks to the staff at Logan Regional Hospital, Maple Springs, and Aegis Hospice for their compassionate care.

There will be a casual gathering in memory of Jolene on Friday August 15 at 6:00pm at Pioneer Valley Lodge, 2351 N 400 E, North Logan, UT.

A viewing will be held in the church building located at 1650 E 2600 N, North Logan, UT Saturday August 16 from 9:30am – 10:30am.
