Judy Bindrup Hofmeister, 83, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2025, in Logan, Utah. Born and raised in Logan, she was the daughter of Lela and Leland Bindrup and one of six children. She was preceded in death by her siblings: Inez, Lavere, Beverly, and Donna Loy. She is survived by her brother, Jay Bindrup, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
Judy graduated from Logan High School in 1960 and later attended Utah State University. She moved to Washington, D.C., to work for the State Department, where she met her first husband George Sozio, and had her three children. After 16 years on the East Coast, Judy returned to Cache Valley to raise her family. She spent over 25 years working in the Special Education department at Utah State University.
A gifted pianist, Judy had a deep love for classical music, musicals, and hymns. Among her many roles within The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, her favorites included leading congregational singing, playing the organ and piano, and being an active member of the choir. Judy was also a longtime member of Towne Singers, with whom she had the privilege of traveling to Russia for a performance.
Judy’s passion for animals, especially cats, was well known. While working at Utah State, she would drive her cherished Cadillac around campus to feed and provide shelter for stray cats and kittens near parking lots and heating vents.
After retiring from the university, Judy and her husband, Alan, who were inseparable in every sense, spent countless hours together—whether enjoying long motorcycle rides across Utah and Idaho, exploring the beauty of Bear Lake and the surrounding countryside, or tending to their pear and apple orchard in Benson. They shared an undeniable bond, and their love for each other was evident in everything they did, from their shared adventures to their devotion in caring for the feral cats in their area.
Following Alan’s passing in 2023, Judy moved into Legacy House, where she received excellent care.
Judy is survived by her three children: Anthony Sozio (Kelly), Theresa Sozio Cole (Rick), and Laura Anderson (Jeremy); her three stepchildren: Andrew Hofmeister (Stacie), Leah Schilling (Steve), and Joni Boury (John); and 11 beloved grandchildren.
