Kendall Balls

LOGAN, UTAH: Kendall Balls died July 28, 2011 at Legacy House Assisted Living Center in Logan.
He was born September 5, 1914, in Hyde Park, Utah. He was the eighth of 12 children born to George David Balls and Julia Weber Balls. He attended school in Hyde Park, Dayton and Preston. He served an LDS mission in the Western States mission and was made president of the South Wyoming region.
Growing up during the Great Depression taught Kendall many lessons in life that he learned well. For more than 40 years he was a successful farmer in Dayton and lived there until he moved to Logan in 1983. After moving to Logan Kendall took care of his own yard work and a large garden of which he shared much of the crops with family and friends.
Kendall served on the Dayton City council from 1972-1970. While on the council he helped build two bridges, and repaired several roads. He was on the A.S.C. committee of Franklin County, and the nominating committee of the Federal Land Bank.
Kendall enjoyed cooking in Dutch ovens and spent many hours cooking for his friends and family in his backyard and in the mountains. Each year on the opening day of fishing season, Kendall could be found at Twin Lakes or the Blackfoot Reservoir enjoying fishing with his sons.
As an active member of the LDS Church, Kendall has served in many callings including Elder’s Quorum presidency, one of the presidents of the 88th Quorum of the Seventies of the Oneida LDS Stake, in the Sunday School presidency, executive secretary in the Clifton 1s t Ward, on the Oneida Stake High Council, and the bishopric of the Dayton LDS Ward, and the Williamsburg Branch in Logan. Kendall and Jean served as ordinance workers in the Logan Temple for 19 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents and all of his siblings. He is survived by his spouse of 66 years and his children, Kendall Rodney (Ellen) of Roy; Marilyn (Brent) Schvaneveldt of American Falls; Twila Anderson of West Jordan; and Seth Lynn (Patricia) of Logan. His legacy includes 15 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren who all love him very much.
