Kenneth Mortimer Baker

November 14, 1932 — February 29, 2024

Brigham City, Utah

In Loving Memory for Kenneth Mortimer Baker (1932 - 2024)

Our loving Father, Kenneth Mortimer Baker, passed away peacefully on 29 February 2024 at the age of 91. Kenneth was born in Beaver Utah, on 14 November 1932 to Jesse and Ireta Baker. He was preceded in death by his wife, Savanna Baker, his son Allen Kenneth Baker, his sister Phyllis White, and great-granddaughters Savanna and Paige Bloomfield. He is survived by his siblings, Jerene Weeks, Douglas Baker, William (Bill) Baker and Carol Palmer.

His greatest joy in life was his family and his devotion to his faith. He always had the desire to serve the Lord from early on in his life, which led him to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the West Central States from 1953 - 1955. It was there that he met his sweetheart Savanna and were later married on 24 February 1956, in the Logan Temple for Time and all Eternity. He was very faithful in fulfilling numerous callings as he was asked. He served in the Bishopric for a number of years as well as a Temple worker at the Logan Temple.

He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He and Savanna raised 8 children; seven of which are surviving: Vicki (Ken) Thurston, Connie (Doug) Woodhead, Janet (Wells) Hall, Glenn Baker, Kevin (Cami) Baker, Karen (Dan) Carter, and Gordon (Bridget) Baker. They were blessed with 39 grandchildren, 83 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren leaving behind a legacy that will endure for years to come.

Ken pursued his passion for agriculture at Utah State University and served his country with honor in the US Navy from December 1955 to October 1957. He dedicated many years to his work, including dairy farming and later worked for USU in their food service department. Alongside his son Allen, he co-owned Baker Machine, and also operated his own small engine repair and blade sharpening business from his barn.

Ken had many talents and interests. He loved playing music, singing, and dancing. He took pride in his work, whether it was raising cows and chickens, tending to his large garden to provide for his family, woodworking, blade sharpening or teaching his kids how to work.

Ken was always happy and took things as they came. He was a fighter right up to the last moment as he endured to the end. He always said “I wouldn’t be surprised if I lived to be 100”. He was pretty close as he was 91 when he passed.
