Kimberley Ann Sorensen Chambers, 57, of Smithfield, Utah, passed away on July 23, 2026, in the arms of her husband, Kelley Chambers, surrounded by family, after a long, courageous battle with cancer, complications from organ transplants, and other significant health challenges.

Kim was born on October 3, 1968, to Per Sorensen and Sherry Robertson. She attended Mountain Crest High School and spent her life in Cache Valley.

On October 10, 1986, Kim married Kelley Chambers. Together, they built a life and family over nearly 40 years of marriage, raising their three children, Tawni, Jesse, and Dixon.

When her children were young, Kim worked as a hairstylist, but in 2001, she began a long career with the Bear River Association of Governments, where she was a housing case manager for nearly 20 years. Her desire to care for others extended far beyond her family, reaching into her work and the community she served. She often came home, even on stressful days, reiterating to her children the importance of helping others, especially those unable to control their circumstances.

Kim was very proud of her Danish heritage through her father and cherished her trips to Denmark to visit family and friends. She loved plants, a passion passed down through her father and her beloved grandparents, Anna and Villy. She also loved spending time at Bear Lake, listening to country music and classic rock, and basking in the sun with her friends and family. Christmas always held a special place in her heart, for it was then that she honored her heritage, friends, and family the most through lifelong traditions and delicious food.

Over the years, Kim loved and cared for her dogs deeply, as they were never simply pets but part of the family she adored so much.

One of the greatest joys of Kim’s life was becoming a grandmother. Her granddaughters brought tremendous happiness into the final years of her life. Despite everything she endured with her health, she was able to welcome both into the world and make memories with them for as long as she could.

The final six years of Kimberley’s life brought challenges that would have been difficult for anyone to endure. In December 2020, she received a liver transplant due to an autoimmune disease, followed by a kidney transplant in 2022. In late 2023, Kimberley was diagnosed with esophageal cancer and underwent radiation, chemotherapy, and an esophagectomy. Complications following surgery nearly took her life and resulted in months of hospitalization and rehabilitation following a prolonged stay on a ventilator.

Still, Kim fought her way back for her family.

Earlier this year, her family received the devastating news that the cancer had spread. Determined to spend as much time as she could with her granddaughters, Kim continued fighting through further treatments, hospitalizations, blood transfusions, ICU stays, pneumonia, and life flights to Salt Lake City.

This July, Kim chose to return home with hospice care, where she could spend her remaining time with the people she loved most. Her final days were spent surrounded by her family, including her two beloved granddaughters.

Her family is deeply grateful to everyone who loved Kim, prayed for her, visited her, and supported her. They are especially grateful for the dedicated medical professionals who cared for her through some of the most difficult moments of her life, as well as her organ donors.

Kim is survived by her husband, Kelley Chambers; her children, Tawni (David) Smith, Jesse Chambers, and Dixon (Tannisha) Chambers; her granddaughters, Zalika and Violet; her parents, Sherry Robertson Penta of St. George, Utah, and Per and Sherri Sorensen of Smithfield, Utah; her siblings, Presha Talbot, Linzie Sorensen, and Michelle Penta-Rogers; as well as her many beloved nieces and nephews.

Though the strength Kim showed throughout her illnesses was remarkable, those illnesses do not define her life.

Her legacy is the love she gave.

That love lives on through her husband, her children, her granddaughters, her family, her friends, those she cared for through her work in housing, and the many others fortunate enough to have been welcomed into her life. She will be remembered for her kindness, her silly humor, her deep well of empathy, and, above all, the unconditional love she had for her family.

She will be loved and missed more than words can ever express.

A viewing will be held on Friday, July 31, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Allen-Hall Mortuary in Logan, Utah. A graveside service will follow at 11:00 AM at the Smithfield City Cemetery.
