Kumen Cooper Ellsworth passed away from natural causes in Hyde Park, Utah on October 20, 2025 at the age of 92, attended by loving family. Kumen was a cherished friend, husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was admired by all for his many talents, his warm smiles, and his kind positive persona.

Kumen was born in the small town of Pima, Arizona on August 22nd, 1933; the eldest of 5 children born to Rex Cooper Ellsworth and Nola Zobedia Ferrin Ellsworth. He spent many of his formative years in Pima and Safford Arizona. From early on, he exhibited a fun-loving spirit, a passion for learning, a strong penchant for caring about others, a love of animals, and a gifted ability to create with his hands.

At the age of 15, Kumen’s family moved to Southern California to expand the Ellsworth family Thoroughbred Horse racing business. They settled on a ranch in the Chino CA area, as the business began to thrive, and Kumen’s interest in horses continued to grow. After attending Arizona State University as an undergrad, he was accepted to the University California at Davis where he received his Doctorate in Veterinarian Medicine. It was during his attendance at UC-Davis that he met an energetic Barbara Thomas. Shortly after Kumen ‘s graduation he and Barbara married in the Los Angeles Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints June 21, 1958.

While residing in Chino, CA, Kumen and Barbara raised their children (MaryJane, Craig, and Erin). They were faithful members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Professionally, .Kumen’s veterinary skills flourished, and he contributed to the success of the Ellsworth horse racing business. He later became a respected Veterinarian of small animals.

Kumen always loved music. He was a skilled player of the piano and organ. He also became known for his enthusiastic and entertaining conducting style. Additionally, his love for cooking brought joy to many. Throughout his life he became a master wood worker and gifted many finely crafted pieces to friends and family.

Upon retirement, Kumen and Barbara moved to North Logan, Utah where they continued to fine tune their artistic skills and build strong relationship with family and friends.

Kumen is survived by his daughters, MaryJane (Mike) Seely, Erin (Zane) Rust, and son Craig (Sherrill) Ellsworth 17 grandchildren and 41 great grandchildren. Sisters Karen Craft and Karmen Roberts, brother Kim Ellsworth. Preceded in death by wife Barbara Ellsworth and brother Kerry Ellsworth

Memorial services will be held on November 1st at 1:30pm at 1105 East 2100 North, North Logan UT There will be a viewing at the church from 12pm to 1pm. Interment will be in the North Logan Cemetery. Arrangements by Allen Mortuary of North Logan.
