Larry Dee Haslem

Larry Dee Haslem passed away unexpectedly on September 6, 2026, after a brief illness.

Larry was born on March 6, 1960, in Logan, Utah, the youngest of six children born to Dean W. Haslem and Evelyn Rosalie Burnes Haslem. He grew up in North Logan, Utah, and graduated from Sky View High School in 1978.

He married his high school sweetheart, Annette Yonk of Petersboro, Utah, on August 22, 1980. They had just celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary. Larry and Annette lived in Salt Lake City for 27 years before returning to the Logan area in 2004.

Larry was a hard worker from a young age. Over the years, he hauled hay, cleaned carpets, worked in dry cleaning, and was a cheese grader at Cache Valley Dairy. He took pride in learning how to do things himself and was a talented handyman throughout his life.

He loved fishing, with Fish Lake Reservoir in central Utah being one of his favorite places. He also especially enjoyed fishing with his father-in-law at Wellsville Reservoir. Larry and Annette spent many years fishing and camping throughout Utah with family and friends, creating memories they cherished.

Larry was also an accomplished photographer, particularly enjoying wildlife photography during visits to Jackson Hole. He had a keen eye for capturing the beauty of the outdoors and loved animals. He and Annette shared that love throughout their marriage, parenting several parrots, some very loyal dogs, and two cats.

He served a mission in Dunedin, Florida for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints. Although he returned home early because of health issues, he always felt that his mission was ultimately completed through his work with Bonneville Studios in Salt Lake City.

Larry began working for KSL Studios in 1979 as a mail clerk. He regularly spent time in the LDS Church Office Building in Salt Lake City, where he interacted with General Authorities of the Church. Among his many assignments was delivering a birthday cake to Spencer W. Kimball.

He went on to work with Bonneville Communications in their dubbing department, where he wound cassettes of Church programs, music, conference broadcasts, and other recordings. In 1985, after being told by a Bonneville human resources director that he would never advance within the company, Larry used the criticism as motivation to work even harder. He eventually earned a position as a studio engineer.

Years later, that same HR director publicly apologized during a meeting in front of dozens of Bonneville employees, saying, “I was wrong in my assessment of Larry and his ability. He surprised me and greatly exceeded my expectations.”

Larry went on to work as a recording engineer with Bonneville Studios, producing multiple LDS Church broadcasts, editing scriptures that had been translated into various languages, and dubbing Music and the Spoken Word from English into Danish. He traveled to Denmark to meet with his language counterparts and helped incorporate the Danish language into the English production of the program.

One of the highlights of Larry's career was working on the movie Legacy. During the final editing and sharing of the movie's music, Larry sat with LDS church president Gordon B. Hinckley. Larry later told Annette that the music brought tears to President Hinckley's eyes, and that he said, “The music is some of the most beautiful I have ever heard.”

After 29 years with Bonneville Communications, Larry retired.

He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, determination, love of the outdoors, talent with his hands and camera, love of animals, and especially his devotion to Annette, his family, and his friends.

Larry is survived by his wife, Annette, and his five siblings: Kay Watt (Nephi Chad) of Lindon, Utah; Bruce Haslem (Karen) of North Logan, Utah; Janis Griffin (Dan) of Bountiful, Utah; Debra Lindsay (Ken) of Manti, Utah; and LaRae Tadlock (Martin) of Sherman, Texas. Also, by his brother-in-law Neil Yonk (Laurie), his sister-in-law Sheila Falslev (Ferrin), as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dean and Evelyn Haslem, and his parents-in-law, Nolan K. and Delores B. Yonk of Petersboro, Utah, and his brother-in-law Jeff Yonk.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, September 12 at 3:00 p.m. at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E Center Street, Logan, Utah. Larry chose not to have a viewing.

Larry leaves behind a lifetime of hard work, meaningful accomplishments, cherished memories, and people who loved him dearly. He will be deeply missed.
